Maybe Tony was running a little short on chain.

Can either front or rear sprocket be slipped off the shaft without removing the chain? (I'm remembering how rear sprockets go on a coaster-brake hub, which would let you pop the sprocket off and get some slack).

Presumably it doesn't have an eccentric bb, also.

Nope. I'm going to take a picture to clearly explain the situation.

No, it has track ends so there is no need for an eccentric bb. i'm guessing this is BS. Again I am having a hard time believing that any shop, let alone the manufacture would set up a bike like this. Again pics or this is BS

Thanks,

Ryan

So, the axle is tight against the dropout and the chain is as tight as it can be? I'd really like to see a pic of that. So would Tony from IRO, I'd bet.

When you take the pic, be sure to remove the axle nuts so we can see the axle up against the dropout.

After reading all this, I think the best solution for ryan to do is take poster #2's advice and get a chain tool and take care of this himself. Meanwhile, perhaps Tony can mail ryan an extra link or two. Easy fixing.

Ryan and Tony should have a Beyond Thunderdome-esque battle to solve this issue.

Two bikes enter, one bike leaves!

Ok, here are some Q & D. The shots aren't the best, but they will have to do for now.

Wow, that's crazy.

Get a chain breaker and an extra link or two and you'll be good to go. Just be careful not to push the pin all the way out or you'll have a heck of a time getting it back together.

Whoa cowboy, calm down. I've been busy the past few days and was wondering if there was something I was missing to get the chain off. Plus, this is a brand new bike, so I didn't think I would have to go and break the chain.

well that could have been explained more expertly in the original post and this could have all been avoided

You definitely need a longer chain, I don't know how that could have happened

Wow, that is tight! I don't know how he was able to get the 2 ends of chain together in the first place with it that tight.

It would appear that the chain was measured too short, wrapped around the rear cog then placed on the chain ring and forced into place by turning the cranks.

After you use the chain tool I'd be checking the chain ring for signs of damage too as doing this would not have been easy.
