NYC Bike Shops

I assume there are well stocked and interesting bike shops that specialize in fixed gear in NYC. I'm be there for next week, wondering opinions as any being worth a visit.

some fixed gear boutiques:

King Kog http://www.kingkog.com/ (Williamsburg, BK area)
Trackstar http://www.trackstarnyc.com/ (Lower East Side)
Continuum Cycles http://www.continuumcycles.com/ (East Village)
Chari & Co http://www.chariandconyc.com/ (Lower East Side)

Continuum's not a boutique, but it does have a whole bunch of cool stuff to look at.

City Bicycles on W. 39th (between 8th and 9th, I think) is a cool shop. Bicycle Habitat on Lafayette's got a lot of stuff to look at too.

The people at NYC Velo are nice on 2nd ave.

Check out Bike Works on Ridge street as well.

Affinity Cycles in Williamsburg....

B's Bikes on Driggs in Williamsburg / Greenpoint is great for fixie stuff! the guys there are very cool.

Also, check out Frank's Bikes on Grand St. in the Lower East Side. great deals there...

true to both of those!

Bought my Surly at NYC Velo. Live near Affinity. IIRC, Affinity has a good selection of Bianchi.

unfortunately there all crooks..

GattMood 06-27-08 06:41 PM

Trackstar is a horrible shop. Those dudes, and the girl don't seem to care much for customers.

Who? The guys at NYC Velo are great. I bought 2 bike from them. And Bike Works is awesome as well.

I do have to agree with the comment about Trackstar. I went in there once and I felt like I was bother them. It's manly the girl that works there. Even on the phone she makes it seem like you're wasting her time.

Yeah. I stopped by NYC Velo and Trackstar this past Thursday, and NYC Velo actually reminded me of a bike shop, whereas Trackstar reminded me of a street wear skate shop (supreme) where the employee's are too good to talk to the customers.

does anyone know of any good co-ops in the city?

Catnap 06-28-08 07:56 AM

chari and co peeps are nice, theyre not at all jerky like trackstar. perhaps maybe cuz theyre new

drainyoo 06-29-08 07:16 AM

Just another not on Trackstar...

I called them up yesterday to see if they had Miche high flange hubs in 32h, I actually called a few times to double check. I was told that they do but the girl there. I went all the way into Manhattan to pick up the hubs and when I get there they only have a rear hub. They probably didn't even bother checking.

Who knows but when I go in there I feel so uncomfortable, the total opposite of when I go into NYC Velo or Bike Works. I'm not trying to bad mouth Trackstar, it's nice to have a shop like that around, but I just don't feel right in there. Maybe it's because I don't dress like a hipster. :thumb:

I've never had a problem with Trackstar either. I think Trackstars problem might be that it's their friends are constantly hanging out there, which could put off some people.
