Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? This forum is mostly to do with talking about about track *racing*.

You may find this forum much more enlighting:
Bike Forum's Singlespeed/Fixed Gear Forum

Which is much more about the general fixed/ss scene and has way more traffic.

I don't a Dolan is within your budget. The cheapest Kadet frames are around 400 USD.

Look at the Fuji track, Mercier Kilo (and all the other cheapo bikesdirect rigs), Bianchi pista etc. Oh and don't forget to check out IRO (just because they have decent customer service).

NO KILO. For that money go to www.irocycle.com and get a Mark V. For the money it is the best deal IMO. And people will tell you to get a Kilo, but the components are $hit on a kilo. They're cheap components on a good frame. Get an IRO and you'll get great components on a great frame. the Mark V just so you know is $569

Whatever you do get a bike that doesn't have a front brake or toe clips. You can't get rad with those things on the bike.
