new track bars

i got these from a japanese guy on ebay. i got really sick of the bars that came on my gios and I wanted something a little smaller and more sexy. i really enjoy the bend of these bars they say "jaehwa high class" on them. i feel like they fit the gios well but I can't decide if I want to put bartape on them or leave them raw.

Momovelo is closing up, I believe he is going back
to Japan (got an e-mail since I was on his mailing list.
If not kerin grips how bout classic gloss wrap
like this colnago on e-bay (either white or dark blue)

Foto was uncerimoniously ripped out of e-bay auction.

The following was posted to CR list, I got a similiar
e-mail (I was on momovelo e-mail list) but have deleted
it.

However, I have been in touch with several other mail order houses and
am heartened to find that the vast majority of the products I sold are,
or will be available soon, through:

Wallingford
Harris Cyclery
Rivendell Bicycle Works
American Cyclery, SF
Jitensha Studio, Berkeley
Renaissance
Saint John's Cycles, UK
Bikefix, UK

In fact, I can only think of a few things that will not be available
through one of these channels. And it is for this reason, that I've made
the choice to back off -- I was not aware of it, but my presence did
little more than confuse the retail channel, and hurt these other
vendors -- and that's the last thing I want to do. Everyone struggles in
the bicycle industry, I guess -- and the niche that I'd been trying to
carve out is already crowded with folks much more deserving than I!

I will still try to have the retail shop open for special projects:
restorations, the free bicycle programme, lectures and other events...
but I will do my best to steer clear of the path forged by these other
businesses.

I mean where else are you gonna find 1920's goggles and leather
hairnet helmets?
serious bummer.

Momovelo closing?! Damn, I better make my orders now! Is he still taking orders? That was a great little boutique shop for hard-to-find/never-seen-before stuff...

I think Kai is still taking orders, but there has been
rumbling that e-mails go unanswered and it takes a long
time for items to be shipped.
Knowing what I do of Kai and his dealings I would bet that if you
order something (and its in stock) he would
make sure you get it.
I read in another posting that Kai is returning to Japan? not sure
on this one tho.

i have some of the soyo grips on my lotus...err...the track bars that are usually on my lotus (i swapped them recently) and the only problem that i've had with them is that they are EEEVIL to put on if you don't have compressed air at your disposal. i cut the ends off mine and slide them all the way up to the tops as that's where i do most of my riding. they're not very comfortable or good to ride with in the cold as they're not very thick. but i got used to them...

i found some old pearl colored benotto tape in a box at brian's bikes. not bad for a 2 dollar find. i like how it looks a lot. its is for sure more of a fashion item than a functional thing. i like those soyos but i don't think i ride enough in my drops to get them. this tape i just got will work fine for now. the only odd part about it is on the back it says "stretch tightly around handlebar. heat with flame and adhere to tape, pressing until it sticks" i didn't use a flame and it seems to stick fine.

ps- sorry for the bad picture.

here's a good way to install keirin grips: hairspray on the bars and inside the grips. they slide right on and stick like glue when everything dries. oh, and there's a guy selling a couple of pairs on ebay right now if anyone wants some... his id's moleskinnerie
