Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Masi Speciale: Opinions?

I'm thinking of picking up a complete Masi Speciale from Veloce Bicycles in Portland. This will be my first time buying a full bike and riding straight out of the store.

What is the community opinion on this bike? Anyone own one? Ridden one? Is there something better in the $500-700 range for a complete bike? Am I making a good decision?

Yeah I know, but I don't know much about the quality and deals in the shop because they're other places like...
Bike Central
Veloshop
21st ave
and others.

See if they have your size in stock, Masi is currently out of the Orange ones. The owner was involved in a velodrome crash (he drifted up to a wall when a wind blew through) and apparently their service for getting ANY bikes right now is really rough. Also look at the Speciale Fixed LE, those are in stock from what I understand.

Bikes: masi speciale fixed (urrringe), haro f1 (black), haro x2 (red)

i have one and am very very happy with it.

it's my first fixed gear and i have no complaints. get it.
my one, is orange

the speciale LTD is nice though, if you can get it go for it

mine is pretty much the ltd now though, with the crankset. pretty much the only upgrade i think. oh and those silver bars.

i mean it rides real nice. the geometry is right between relaxed and track, and i dont take it to the velo (but i want to) so for what i'm using it for it's great.

as a bike noob i'd probably be happy with a moto lolmessenger or a windsor but i got a really good deal on it so i went with the masi and i dont regret it.

I paid around $550 for mine and think its worth every penny. The wheels are strong, the frame is very nice quality welds, definitely worth buying. You will have to upgrade the stock cog cause its a POS and the gearing is kind of high stock 48x16. Haggle for price or upgrades, the bike is well worth the money.
