Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? sg conversion help needed

hello all,

i recently bought a cheap-o singlegear conversion... it was great for about the first 200 miles, but now the rear wheel keeps slipping forward making the chain so loose it falls off. playing around with it a little and noticed that the rear axel is bent. also, the rear hub is not perfectly aligned with the sprocket.

i know the axel is pretty easy to fix - and i'm pretty sure its easy to correct the rear hub placement with spacers (no?). but i don't understand why the rear wheel keeps creeping forward - i really tighten the hell out of the quick release... any ideas?

thanks,
AM

Quick releases won't hold. Either change to a solid axle or get a Surly Tugnut.

Certain quick releases won't hold. I run a QR on my SS MTB and I use a good old steel QR. The damn thing doesn't budge.
