Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

SS across the country

I just found this link in the touring forum. Yea, I know this probably violates some rules against posting the same thing in two places, but come on! The we're talking about a gut riding his SS mointain bike across the country. Who would be more interested than the SS forum.

You know, I really want to know what his bike is geared like and how much it weighs with all that crap. Flip/flop? Man, this guy makes me feel like such a wimp.

Yeah, I posted that in the touring forum but no one seemed to comment, I think its awesome... I'd like to tour with something a little more - like an internal gear... but I liked that - if he can do it on one gear... I'm sure I don't need 21 of them! Or something.......

A friend of mine rode a highwheeler across the USA a few years ago. It had no brakes and weighed something rediculous like 50 pounds.
