Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

how to convert

Ok, so I ride a Caad9 5 and love it. My mom has not been riding her old nishiki sport so I would like to convert it to a fixed gear. It sounds like a fun project and it would be cool to have. The only problem is, I have no idea how to go about this. Its very broad, but how do you convert a road bike to a fixie?

Remove the shifters.
Remove the deraillers.
Remove the brakes.
Remove the brake levers.
Remove the rear wheel.
Install a fixed wheel.
Install a cog.
Install a lockring.
Shorten your chain.
And use the search function while you're at it.
