Any color you want. I tried orange Krylon (tm) paint of a set of tires and they lasted for years.

aside from "to look mad tacky", why on earth would you run purple tires? are you contemplating joining the circus? perhaps the carebears?

Found them!
I was on a quest for purple tires and found this thread. Unfortunately it lead me no where so I gave up entirely. I was across town and stopped by a bike shop I had never been in before. They specialized in the single speed/ fixed gear scene. They also had some awesome purple tires (rather 'tyres' since it's a British company). They are the Twin Rail Courier by Halo:

And to those wondering why you would want purple tires; they look great. I have them on a gray and black Fuji cross comp. It's real nice. Mostly simple with a little bit of flash. They also have pink, green and white.
I also was reading that many claim that colored tire = bad tire b/c they may slide out in rain or something like this. I ask the fellow working at the bike shop about this. I kind of tuned out during his answer but he basically said that the material that they use in their colored tires is the same as what they use on their dirt bikes tires.... something something.... they work great. I haven't tried them in the rain yet, but feel solid to me (+grain of salt since I'm not super elitist about cycling)

I saw an ebay auction the other day.. rainbow spectrum and a few more.. to be honest the tires looked like garbage but I think I saw purple there (don't hold me to that I am color blind between blue/purple merely see them as slightly different shades).

Don't know about purple but I can tell you about little kids' bike tires. The black tires that are commonly spec'ed on boys bikes wear about 3 times longer than the white tires that are commonly found on little girl's bikes.

I remember reading something years ago, about black tire rubber being harder than the colored rubber compounds. Probably some extra step or material required for the colors that makes the rubber softer.
