My Build..(pics galore)

Well I started out with a 73 Azuki Racer.
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...CCycles001.jpg
Did my conversion and some other little mods.
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...n/fixie014.jpg
Then I decided to to a complete tare down and rebuild.
I media blasted the whole bike. Painted it Hunter Green then decided to do something different.
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...kibuild001.jpg
GOLD LEAF it.

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...kibuild004.jpg
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...kibuild006.jpg
then cleared it
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...kibuild011.jpg
let me know what you think, still have to put the front brakes back on and the grip tape. Also Im painted a fine black line on the edges where the gold meets the green. And do some clean up and touch up on it

That saddle looks rather high

Good paintjob though

Excellent build, I love threads like this! Agreed, some black detailing will really finish her off nice. :thumb:

Nice job on finding a way to make it different, and doing it yourself. Nothing ventured nothing gained. Now that's a custom bike!

peabodypride 08-03-08 03:28 PM

Thirded on black detailing. Obviously it is impossible to get a perfect edge with gold leaf due to flaking and glue distribution, etc. Just practice first!! and a nice line around the lugs will do you well.

im trying to estimate a price for my conversion and im tring to figure out how much i can plan on spending. i saw you got a new wheel set instead of just replacing the back wheel. how much did it cost to do the basic conversion? before you painted it and all that.

CourtAzukiRacer 08-03-08 06:53 PM

initially it cost me $200. That was for the wheels, cog and labor
This was it 30mins after the conversion was done.

4zn_balla 08-03-08 06:55 PM

that's pretty awesome. Maybe try some mustache bars?

CourtAzukiRacer 08-03-08 06:59 PM

No I like the Bullhorns. I took an old set of drop bars and cut them. I also have another set of drop bars that I will use.

I'm making up a new acronym: Get A Real SeatPost

G.A.R.S.P.! GARSP!

You spend over $60 on a brooks, spend $20 on a real seatpost. Seriously. It's like sending your kid to school with stained underwear.

CourtAzukiRacer 08-03-08 07:26 PM

whats a real seat post then?

Whilesryan 08-03-08 07:30 PM

wait, so you kept the same sproket for the 10 speed and the 200 was just for the new wheel set?? how much did you put into it overall? because it looks pretty good.

Ride Among Us 08-03-08 07:35 PM

leave the little american flags on the new wheels. i like those.

CourtAzukiRacer 08-03-08 07:36 PM

at first I kept the original crank but then later replaced it with the Pake crank($90ish)
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...5man/Gride.jpg
so to get it the way it was before this build was no more then $320. But you could ride the bike perfectly like in the picture here

Really, at the bare minimum (and available in all the weird old sizes):

cc700 08-03-08 08:02 PM

yeah. you need something that doesn't have a clamp mechanism older than you are.

peabodypride 08-03-08 08:05 PM

cc700 I just want to say I still love you! I changed my avatar for you!

Its not high if the frame is on the small side. I only have one bike that really fits all the rest look like that.

oeuf 08-03-08 11:03 PM

Very nice looking bike, good job.
What kind rims/hubs are those?

baxtefer 08-03-08 11:44 PM

nice polished turd you've got there

bionnaki 08-03-08 11:53 PM

honestly, I like the blue version better.

jyw003 08-04-08 01:23 AM

looks awesomeee!!

Sangetsu 08-04-08 01:28 AM

Rather than using Elmers to glue on the gold leaf (Elmers is not waterproof), you should see about getting a low-buck electroplating kit. The kit includes plating solution, swabs, and electrical wires/leads. You supply the battery. The kits are designed for small projects like car emblems and jewelry, but will work very well on bicycle lugs and small part such as bolts, nuts, springs, and such.

CourtAzukiRacer 08-04-08 08:43 AM

thanks for the tip. I will look into it since Im doing another build

jimisnowhere 08-04-08 03:56 PM

I like it, it flirts with being steampunk.

Green & Gold is one of my favorite combos, but this one looks better... Maybe it's because I don't like the bullhorn look...(?) Nice work though.

CourtAzukiRacer 08-05-08 09:11 PM

I agree the blue is very nice, but I wanted something different and something that I can do. Luckily the bike is not expensive and if I want I could paint it back to blue.
