Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? All these Taiwan frames!

So I'm definitely trying to get into the world of FG riding, for exercise and commuting purposes for the most part. I've been researching on this board a lot and it's finally clicked. When I graduated from high school (two years ago), my parents moved back to Taiwan. They come back about three times a year to visit and I was wondering if anyone had any info about Taiwan frames like the Kazane or what looks like the Alien frames too or even the Fuji track (more suggestions?). Is it possible for my parents to buy one cheap there and bring it back next time they visit? Any info would help.

I would imagine that the trouble your folks will go through with packaging a frame, carrying a packed frame, and paying for an odd-sized package for airfreight will add up in cost and inconvenience that would make it better to pay the extra money to order and have one shipped to your door step.

I really like the Alien frame because of the lugs.

True, I just wanted to see if anyone had an idea of really how cheap they would probably be. I'm flying over there in December, maybe I'll try to find nice stuff for cheap. Thanks for the input

I disagree--- assuming you can find a cheaper frameset in Taiwan. You might run into a situation where there is simply no market for it there and therefore no distribution channel for your frame of choice. Otherwise, it is really not a big deal to fly with it. If you need to ship it, that is a different story-- you can easily pay more than it is worth to ship if it is "oversize" regardless of weight. I ran into that trying to ship a frame to Europe. I ended up just flying with it.
