HandsomeRyan 04-11-09 05:45 PM

lookin' good. I want to know more about the rear wheel/paint.

solbrothers 04-11-09 05:54 PM

the wheelset is from my 1974 gazelle tour de avenir. its strange, the bike was a road bike, but came with a flip flop hub. kinda strange. and the paint, well, i got bored a long time ago. im going to repaint the wheels rust red primer to somewhat match the saddle.

btw, they are 27" wheels, 27x1 tyres

HandsomeRyan 04-11-09 06:07 PM

Cool. I just ordered a new rim and some spokes to rebuild a really old Shimano high flange hub that looks a lot like those (only mine is chrome). High flange hubs FTW.

solbrothers 04-11-09 06:08 PM

yes sir. these hubs are actually chrome, if i hit them with paint stripper

My motobecane messenger for now-

I got new pedals for it, and i am looking for a new saddle. Anyone have any recommendations?

Btw:
I am 5'4, and the bike is a 54cm.

Understanding 04-11-09 09:30 PM

well, i got a san marco rolls, as you saw on the last page.

Mr.jon 04-11-09 10:14 PM

Yeah, i saw the fantastic reviews of the san marco rolls, but it is a bit out of my price range.

solbrothers 04-11-09 10:17 PM

san marco rolls ftw! where do you live dude?

Mr.jon 04-11-09 10:28 PM

Me?

solbrothers 04-11-09 10:42 PM

i'll got lucky, i got a the san marco rolls titanio for $50. LBS rule. Funny thing is, the guy at the bike shop knows his stuff, probably glad to get rid of it since people around me only want top-of-the-line stuff.

best thing about being on long island is no hipster tax.

Mr.jon 04-11-09 10:45 PM

Nah, i live in the rdu area of North Carolina. Im looking at the steel bar san marco rolls, but i can't find a reputable shop that carries them.

How do I tell if I have a threadless fork? I guess they are shipping them out with both types of forks. It says (1 inch threaded or threadless NoChoice) And what will the difference be?

The lockrings are referring to the bottom bracket lockrings?

Who can recommend bullhorns that will fit on this bike?

is this a joke?

solbrothers 04-11-09 10:57 PM

dude, i dont think thats a joke. but everyone has to start somewhere!

Mr.jon 04-11-09 11:34 PM

So im thinking about riding to my local shopping center on my messenger. The ride is only 6.2 miles, but i am an amateur rider that is quite out of shape. Should i try it?

craigcraigcraig 04-11-09 11:38 PM

go for it, just dont rush yourself. you will be there faster than you expect most likely.

solbrothers 04-11-09 11:47 PM

dont be a *****! haha. i remember when 6 miles was a lot.

Mr.jon 04-11-09 11:50 PM

6 miles is kinda a lot for me. Generally at the gym il do around 12-13 "electronic" miles in half an hour, but that isn't the same as riding a fixed gear bike up and down hills, ect.

solbrothers 04-12-09 12:11 AM

yeah. im just kidding. i remember last spring when 10 miles seemed impossible

HandsomeRyan 04-12-09 05:58 AM

Do it! Let us know how it goes.

Yikes...unless you're all torso, I don't see that working out too good.
