It's not that much work... Transfer the BB and cranks; transfer the stem and bars; install and hook up new front brake; transfer wheels/tires; transfer the seatpost/saddle.

Cost. Buying a frame is only $200 and change but factoring in a new wheelset, cranks, chain, stem, bars, seatpost, saddle, etc. to build up a whole other frame and soon you are deep into the wallet.

I don't really need 2 "identical-except-for-the-frame" fixies in my collection. I'm thinking build the Jury as a FG to take the place of my messenger and at a later date rebuild the messenger frame into an OSOBike-esque SS with a coaster brake rear wheel for riding some longer road stuff.

if you run gatorskin tires or armadillo tires, you may get less flats, even at a size like 23c.

I'm running a 23mm gatorskin on the rear (where all the flats are occuring) and I've gotten 2 flats with it already. It's a nice tire, but it has proven inefficient at preventing flats where I ride. My greenway bike runs 34mm commuter tires and it has only given me one flat in several thousand miles. I believe this to be due to poor trail conditions and my weighing north of 200lbs.

I'm considering the purchase of a 'Jury' frameset to transfer the parts from the Messenger. I can run much larger tires on the Jury and hopefully quit getting so many flats. Also, as much as I love the orange paint- that chrome frame is sweet!

Exactly what I am thinking to build a cross but not yet found a frame 47-48 cm under $200.

What about a SS cross frame w/ canti posts for $208.95 shipped? I think 49cm is the smallest they stock but maybe you could use a shorter stem to make up the difference?

Looks like a good gig, are these motobecanes still as heavy as they were back in the day? Is this true of most french built frames?

Different company making bikes under the name Motobecane now. These frames are made in China for an american company and although you aren't going to get an ultralight frame for $200, I wouldn't say that the frames are unreasonably heavy either.

I agree,I have a moderate built Kilo TT

But for the cheap,I dare you to find a better frame.Im not into cross, but i think you could transfer all your parts, except you will have to buy vee/canti brakes, unless you run brakeless.

BoozyMcliverRot 01-06-09 01:32 AM

Bye the bye,I have seen a lot more F1x3d riders here latley.

I say we spread this as far as we can.

Understanding 01-09-09 03:44 PM

k, i just checked my bike, got the lockring off. there's red stuff on the threading so it's safe to say it's been glued with locktite, although i didn't get any trouble getting it off.

HandsomeRyan 01-26-09 06:16 AM

I picked up some 28mm tires and I'm going to see if I can run them for a while. I got the tires from an online store that was closing and paid $5.60 a piece for them! The only way to get tires cheaper than this is to shoplift them!

henryxdam 02-19-09 05:47 PM

a little thread revival, but hopefully not too bad.

on BD it says threaded or threadless fork (no choice)...

what did you guys yet?

Understanding 02-19-09 06:08 PM

threadless.

i got gr9s last month for my bike, i like, and the metal clips hold my foot better then the stock plastic clips.

Andy215 02-19-09 08:03 PM

Hey guys, I'm sure it's been asked before and it's somewhere in this forum, but I'm new so I came here first.

I'm considering the 54cm Messenger, but the Windsor Clockwork is also appealing, and for the $30 difference I can't figure out what the differences are between the two. I can see that the Messenger has a bit more tight of a geometry, but will that matter?

This bike will be ridden entirely on streets in a large city, and I will ride it as a SS, but still want the option to go fixed.

Any help?

Understanding 02-19-09 11:39 PM

the motomess has all you need. it has a fix cog and a freewheel.

solbrothers 02-20-09 02:33 AM

motomess ftw!

Andy215 02-22-09 11:52 AM

Alright guys, I'm gonna buy this. I'm 6'0'' - 6'1'', and have about a 30.5 inseam, should I go for the 56cm?

Thanks for the info, my problem is that I've never been sized for a track frame, and have no idea what to do. Does anyone know where I can find info on how to measure myself in relation to a track frame's sizing?

solbrothers 02-22-09 06:12 PM
