Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

On my bulletins on myspace, Bike wars in Raleigh NC?

Subject: Raleigh Cyclists
Body: keep your Ulocks handy. I carry a knife. understand that instigation will clearly open one of two different paths. be prepared for the worst. know your limits. know when to back down. but also know that the world is on your side and there are others out there prepared to fight this type of ignorance. if you choose to fight know that you're doing it for all of those who are unable to.

From Joshua>

this happened to a good friend of mine.

**** is ****ed! we gotta do something about this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was riding Oberlin today around 5 on my way home, and got a 1" chain to the back by a black guy hanging out of a silvery blue honda accord with its hub caps removed. At the next light, 3 black dudes got out of the car with a chain and a bat and told me to "ride on the mother****ing sidewalk mother****er". When 30 other drivers started yelling at them and calling the police, they took off, but said "we're gonna get you mother****ers one by one".

So, EVERYONE LOOK OUT, AND IF YOU SEE THIS CAR, GET THE LICENSE PLATE.

Officer Doughton said i should ride on teh sidewalk "i know its against the law, but its the right thing to do".

WTF does that mean?

and on teh question "when will they widen oberlin or put in a bike lane" he said

"with all these new businesses popping up and increased traffic, probably never".

what? what? WHAT? raleigh is god damn ********

haha but i can keep my facebook right?

anyway, I know the guy who posted it, and it doesn't sound too far fetched considering some of my own experiences.

another raleighite here. I got hit with a chain once when I lived in Miami, but Raleigh is way tame compared to that. This seems a little far out there, especially since I live pretty close to oberlin(do you ever go to 1304? I live there)

No worries, I mounted a Vickers .30 cal machine gun next to my bell on the flats of my bike. Sure I look like I'm riding around on a Sopwith Camel, but nobody tells me to fly on the sidewalk either

Isolated incident. Roads here could be better, but preparing to defend against getting chain whipped while riding is overkill, atmo. Sorry it happened, consider yourself lucky. Odds are the punks will get theirs eventually.
