Front caliper brake adjust?

I have a 08 bianchi pista and I'm about to put front brakes on them. I'll be using Paul E-Lever with a Shimano 105 caliper brake. I've never had a fixed gear bike with brakes on them so my question is, how tight do you guys have your brakes? as in whats the tension? if it still doesn't make sense, I would like to know if most of you with brakes ever press on the lever too hard and flip. sounds stupid but Im just clueless with fixed gear bikes with brakes. someone please help out with my Q. thanks guys. give some slack for a NOOB

by tight do you mean you don't have to pull the lever much? mine's like that. start with it slack and get brake modulation down.
