Buy a car, this way you'll never need to lock up your bike :)

sp00ki 08-25-08 07:42 PM

yeah, buy an suv like this guy.

Just so I understand the situation correctly, you spent a bunch of money getting your frame professionally painted and only now realize it would be more likely to be stolen now that it's purty?

Consider this a lesson in the value of forethought.

So you want your nice bike to look like crap for what reason?

You are all crazy. Get a cheap bike if you're so afraid of having it stolen. Or get a proper lock. Or insurance. Or bring it inside. How can you even consider ruining the appearance of a perfectly good locking bike? Some people I know have a fancy road bike for racing, and a cheaper bike for leaving at the tube station or whatever. If it's cheap enough, like a 20 year old 3-speed, you can just leave it out side your house all the time, so it won't even take up any extra space.

you're not going to make many friends on a bike forum like that.

not where i live, they are either klepto *******s like a prior roommate of mine, or drunken idiots who leave their bikes unlocked, which get stolen, and then they go out and steal other ones. (and for some reason the stolen ones always seem to be women's bikes)

but i agree with the 2 good locks, and something to secure the seat if it is a nice seat (don't bother with those things designated as "seat locks" someone can snip those way too easily)

use household things like electrical tape to cover lots of it, can look ok from afar, but looks nice and cheap up close.

i think a lot of this forum has bought way into kryptonite marketing. if your **** is gonna get stolen, it's gonna get stolen... don't be a dumbass and there's a good chance it won't. increase your odds -- get a good lock or two, lock up in safe places, don't leave valuable stuff out too long etc. etc. and live your life.

stripping paint? rubbing dirty grease all over the ****ing thing? pretending it's taped together? taping tubes all up. jesus, these threads read like the rantings of a PTSD vet with a bomb shelter under his house and a shotgun in every doorway.

jodypolk 08-27-08 12:24 PM

and yeah, having a bike stolen sucks... been there.

ianjk 08-27-08 12:30 PM

2 locks + some tape/stickers.

A little skidmark on the Brooks never hurts.

667 08-27-08 12:42 PM

Sit on it.

octopus magic 08-27-08 12:47 PM

if you honestly repaint/sand blast a decent paint job you are the dumbest monkey turd ever to slide out of the gaping sphincter on a zoo floor.

Get a lock and don't be a dumbass.

Snails 08-27-08 08:30 PM

just take a rattle can, and spray paint your bike, it'll be a 4 minute solution and its PERFECT..

mangpress 08-27-08 11:00 PM

taking care to get paint all over your spokes and seat-tube

GRHebard 08-27-08 11:02 PM

rattle can it flat black.
itll still look good, and it wont be flashy.

what color are your wheels?

SinVoz 08-27-08 11:58 PM

This is why I never leave my bike locked up, out of site. Bike commuting is pretty "new" to orlando. Rarely do you find any set rules against bringing your bike inside places. In fact, many places encourage it. Sorry I know this doesn't help you.

Sp00ki....I just want you to know that you are part of the reason I come to this forum, in an almost completely hetero way.
