not that my bike is even expensive.... but double locking is probably going to be a much better idea than making it look like crap.
personally, i bring my bike inside whenever possible. the only place that my bike is locked up for a substantial period of time is at my office. and it's double locked there, as well as being directly in front of the doors for the building. my desk is also next to the window, so i can keep an eye on it from the comfort of my office. also, it may help to make friends with security guards or any sort of doorman that your job has. i was outside one day and saw my buildings doorman/security guard outside smoking and he started talking to another building employee about fixed gear bikes and was pointing at my bike. i mentioned that it was mine and we talked for a bit. turns out he used to ride at kissena or wherever. he offered to keep an eye on it whenever he's in, which was really nice of him. still, just use common sense and lock it up securely. |
i really hope this guy sandblasts/clearcoats.
"raw" frames look so tuff... |

you could also leave a plastic bag over the seat too, thats a common theme on crap bikes. |

She's dead. |
Even more of a deterrent.

I think she was scarier when she was still alive.

Also true, but I think that a black brooks seat can look good on almost any bike. Except a strictly tarck bike.

Sorry to dig up ghost, but I was looking on how to strip the paint off my bike to get a "raw" look, just wondering if a sandblaster is de facto or could I just use sandpaper? Any other methods minus the sandblaster, cause I don't think I get a 'blaster easily...
Also, in regards to theft evasion, stray away from meth-heads...they'll either steal your ****, or just leave it completely disassembled. |
i'm not sure the OP painted the frame. he got it used, so chances are it was already painted when he bought it. either way, the first thing that came to mind was Pee Wee Herman lock it.
|
Didn't read all of this. I'd make it a sticker bike. Mhm
|
I saw a bike locked up outside a bar the other night that had large parts of the frame wrapped in electrical tape. At first it looked like a low end bike with home-made scratch proofing, but upon further inspection I saw it was a nicer frame... it fooled me at first, so I bet it'll deter a potential thief

rattle can over existing paint and don't clear coat it.

Go down to the Goodwill store and snag a Schwinn Varsity, complete with suicide levers and 9-inch dork disk. Do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to it but ride it. Rusty chain, crappy bartape cracked and crusty, brakes barely stop you, need the Ted Shred assist. Yeah, it's a singlespeed because the derailleurs have rusted tight and the shift cables are broken. Paint is chipped, scratched, rusty. Bike weighs 35 pounds.
Thieves will still want to steal your bike. |

i guess, but sandblast and clearcoat does it with dignity. you can make your bike look undesireable without making it look dumb...
clearcoat over this: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/193/4...ee2b31cec2.jpg makes it look low without being tacky. That bike would be gone in a flash. |
