On Monday I'm going to call Tony and show him the interest/demand for his next group buy to be now. He should then have his web designers add a page to his website allowing us to order the size/color of the frame we want. The buy-page will expire in a certain amount of time, and then he'll order the frames from the distributor. Next, they are made, and shipped overseas (takes at least 2 months for everything i believe).

If anyone would like to help feel free to PM me

not to burst your bubble or anything, but didn't tony just drop a memo explaining how outrageously busy his team is keeping up with current orders? what makes you think he'd want to add to that load for less money and the headache of the typical no-shows?

When I went to pick up my Mark V from him back in June, he mentioned that he would never do group buys again (said it was too much of a hassle). Maybe he's changed his views since then...who knows.

Tony is currently 8 weeks behind on his builds. However, a group-buy does not occupy any significant amount of his labor. He places the order with the factory after we order online, and then when the frames arrive in NY, he'll repackage them and send them to us. That simple.

Hope that helps to answer your questions

i hear you, but that's what i mean-- the group buy, according to the brief time i spent with him on the phone, took lots of his time. between contacting people, answering questions, the lost orders fiasco (isolated incident, but still), and the headache of everyone and their mom either bugging about last minute switches or not paying the remainder at all, it might be more work than he can deal with right now. perhaps give it a month for things to slow down? might be more compelling after the back to school rush (assuming such a thing even exists).

since the majority polled wants either an Angus or Mark V Pro...can we ask for something like no water cable bosses?

really want a clean frame for a change.

Probably. That will come to vote in stage 2 or stage 3. Right now I'm getting a feel for the geometries that people want. Tony introduced the Rob Roy for everyone with the dedacciai tubing, so you never know what were going to get this time if he accepts.

No he didn't. You are confusing group buys.

Again, however, not to being a burster of bubbles, but...

- the last group buy for RR frames went down about this time last year and it took until March to receive frames.
- Last thing heard through the grapevine is that not only is Tony busy with currnet business (If he's got all the work he can manage selling bikes at full retail, where's his motivation to do a run of frames going out the door for cheap? Supply and demand...), but factories in Taiwan were also running months behind. The RR was way late, same thing with the BD frames and bikes.

Two month timeframe might be a bit optimistic. Just sayin'....

That said, I'm totally loving my RR GB frame, and the Group Buy pricing was too good to pass up, even given the wait.

Sign up for a group buy if you've got another bike to ride in the meantime, and don't make plans around initial tentative due dates.

PS, there's also a new "Group Buy" forum down in Marketplace--might get even more response there from people who don't usually stumble into FG/SS

yeah..... i seriously don't mind the wait if the deal is good enough.

keep it simple like the previous GB; clean frame set only and with just a few colour choices.

choice of tubing - according to the current market steel prices; i am afraid you can't really go higher end than the reynolds that they have right now in order to stay economical IMHO

For those of you wanting a "track" frame,
Before committing yourselves to a 7-8 month wait on an IRO, consider that a Bianchi Pista Concept look-a-like frame tentatively called the Motobecane "Pro Track" may be available within a similar time frame.

Read this thread...the whole thing, not just the bike posted at the top.

Is that frameset or whole bike? If thats for a frameset (which I suspect), its going to be far beyond the budgets of all these poor dirtbags wanting rock bottom-priced IRO frames.

OK, well we'll have more of our answers on Monday when I call Tony.

As far as the group-buy page in the market-place, it would have to be confirmed by Tony to be listed there first (according to forum rules).

MarkV
Red/Black/BloodRed/Blood Orange/PearlWhite
Frame or Frame+fork+headset

Has Tony thought about maybe hiring some more people, and some renting some more space? If this group buy goes down, and it's just frames, and no build is needed, it would be a lot faster if he set up a temporary shop on the west coast, to do all the repackaging, instead of having them shipped across the country, repackaged, then possible shipped back across the country. Or maybe he can strike a distributor deal with select bike shops in some of the major cities. Just a thought.
