Laphroaig is my favorite Scotch. I also like Jameson's.

Glenfiddich.

McCallan, aged in sherry barrels or something

And thanks to who ever started the whiskey tangent on that other thread....it just prompted me to go buy a fresh bottle of Sheep Dip. Bike Forums is good for the economy!

Love the Islay Scotches, especially Laphroaig.

I really like Sheep Dip. It has a wicked awesome bottle too. Let us know when you try that Swig, or if anyone else gets to it first please do the same. I'm a big fan of Maker's Mark. |
If ya'll aint seen it, check this book out. My other-half gave it to me for Christmas last year. It's really really good.

The Mrs. and I enjoy Evan Williams, Old Crow and even Heaven Hill (when it's a really slow week). We pretty much stick to bourbon, but do enjoy Islay scotch when it happens to be around. Cheers to taking the beer bikes out with a flask in your back pocket!
|
I like canadian whiskey myself. Don't have much of a taste for burbon or other american whiskeys.
Can anyone educate me on what's unique about scotch or irish whiskey? |

Can anyone educate me on what's unique about scotch or irish whiskey? I'm not THAT big a fan of Scotch, I'll leave that topic to others, but here's my .02 on Irish: It is so smooth due to being distilled 3 times. It doesn't have the smoke that Scotch has, which to me pangs of bitterness. It's not as sweet as burbons so it makes for a much more enjoyable straight expierience (even though lately I have prefered burbons). If you want a GREAT, relativley cheap, extremely drinkable Irish to try go for a bottle of Jameson. |
I'm a mick so naturally I'll go for Jameson, but have lately been drinking Tullamore Don't (or Dew if you really want to)
My favorite tipple was when I was working a quick plumbing job at some 70 year old ex-model's place in East Harlem, 4-floor brownstone, grand pianos, naked statues, the works. So she's got her liquor assortment just sitting out and of course being that it is breakfast time me and the boys start crackin into all the fine aged stuff. In all honesty I don't remember any favorites... maybe the Glenfiddich. Some of the stuff wasn't even labeled but was some real shunty stuff. |
I'm a Tennessee whiskey guy myself, I like the charcoal flavor.
God help me, I prefer plain ole' "Old No. 7" Jack. -I know, I know, the whiskey snobs swoon. And forget about the scotch guys, they already think they're better than everyone else. ;) :) "Gentleman Jack" is excellent, very smooth and if you want something "better" than No. 7 this is the way to go. George Dickel No. 12 is all right. Jack Daniel's Single Barrel is "just okay" for me; the bottle I have, anyway. -Each barrel is different. There are really only two commercially available brands of Tennessee whiskey (or whisky, to the folks at Dickel): Jack Daniel's and George Dickel. Both give the unmistakeable charcoal flavor that defines Tennessee, and differentiates it from bourbon that's made "up the road" so to speak. Irish has peat, Tennessee has charcoal. For me Jack, Old No. 7 in particular, has the most; along with a vanilla sweetness and a "soft" drunk that in my estimation makes it a winner. |
^ Interesting. I have not revisited Jack since I "discovered" whiskey. I'll have to take the Tenn stuff for another swing next time I'm at a bar.
