ehhh gosh the weather is getting chilly, and i still dont have a good lite jacket.
i am still going to be riding and training in the winter, so i am looking for something that is lite weight but able to keep me warm.
any ideas?
i know louis garneau is good, pearl izumi is good, what else is good?
also, i am trying to supporting small, independent business; that is why i have not brought anything from said companies above.

If you are really intersted in supporting local business than I would suggest going to the LBS and sking for advice in addition to the advice here. Don't get to caught up on brands and commercialism. Just get a jacket and ride!

i go to my LBS 3 times a week. they only deal louis garneau.

got some good responses here. my dad gave me this north face windbreaker that is absolutely perfect. warm, light, and comfortable as hell. i can't figure out what it's called, but it has "hydrenaline" sewn into the sleeve.

Foxwear
This is just one guy as far as I know. The stuff you order from him is highly customizable, but still affordable. He will work with you to get exactly what you want. His gear gets good reviews on the forum.

Ibex
They have mostly wool stuff. It's similar to the apparel that Icebreaker and Smartwool make, but Ibex actually makes a lot of their stuff in the USA. I own a lot of pieces from them, and I like them all.

Showers Pass
This company is based in Portland, and they make stuff primarily for the rain, but some of their jackets may work for cold weather as well.

Rapha
I have the Rapha Softshell, and it's a nice jacket. I didn't pay full price though, and neither should you. I wouldn't buy anything of theirs unless you're in love or you get a good deal.

I believe that eVent is the best material for a waterproof/breathable jacket. Softshells can be nice, but they will get soaked in a downpour even with DWR coating. The Showers Pass Elite 2.0 is made using eVent. A few other companies that make active jackets using eVent are RAB (UK), Montane (UK), Integral Designs (CA), and Endura (UK).

I have no idea. I wish I had money and a reason to wear Rapha gear, but Floridian winter time only causes people sweat less.

If you go to chainlove or steepandcheap.com you can get 50% off anything at backcountry's outlet through a link on those sites. they have a bunch of jackets like Arc'Teryx, for example, for nice prices.

For running I use Craft and love it! I wonder if anyone has experience with their bike gear?
