Good Cycling Jacket.

I need something pretty light with some good size pockets for holding stuff. Any suggestions?

The Shower Pass Elite 2 is recommended by a lot of people in the commuting forum.

I have an older Pearl Izumi Jacket that is super lightweight, water proof, and folds into itself and becomes a fanny pack when you need it to be small. Its held up for five or six years now, its sweet.

Its kind of like this one http://www.pearlizumi.com/product.ph...uct_id=1150446

I got a Louis Garneau jacket from my LBS on sale for $40. It's awesome because it is waterproof, has fleece lining, you can remove the arms, and you have two zip pockets up front and one large one in the back.

i think a motorcycle jacket looks tuff.

I got a nice Cannondale convertible (sleeves zip off and attach with magnets! cool!) jacket marked down to cost from my LBS ('08 season) and love it. Like many others here, waterproof, lightweight and made for riding. I like that it fits perfectly while i'm in riding position because it was designed for just that purpose. The sleeves are nice and long for when you're stretched out on a road bike and it has vents and mesh lining to keep you cool and dry.

I got this from Chainlove.com for $54.00 ~2 months ago.

^^^^^^^ Yup. I usually see them for ~$140 - $150.

Check out these guys. The "Yellow Jacket" is great with side and back zipper pockets, multiple venting and it's light weight. Great price for the quality too.

Awesome jackets.. but wicked expensive.

chris wielk 09-24-08 10:36 AM

the other day i tried on the north face M mountain light jacket and i'm definitely getting it for winter. it fit really well. right now i have a north face waterproof sheel that i like but comes up a bit in the back when riding. the m mountain light was a little bit longer, and allows you to zip in a fleece liner for layering up. also had 2 inside pockets, 2 regular outside and one on the sleeve, and a hood that rolls inside.

Yeah, proceeds from a recent birthday are going to this, so pretty stoked.

GoreBike is really nice. A bit thicker and neoprene-like.

qcsky 10-02-08 09:58 PM

good jacket

ehhh gosh the weather is getting chilly, and i still dont have a good lite jacket.
i am still going to be riding and training in the winter, so i am looking for something that is lite weight but able to keep me warm.
any ideas?
i know louis garneau is good, pearl izumi is good, what else is good?
also, i am trying to supporting small, independent business; that is why i have not brought anything from said companies above.
thank you all for answering

slloth 10-02-08 10:03 PM

If you are really intersted in supporting local business than I would suggest going to the LBS and sking for advice in addition to the advice here. Don't get to caught up on brands and commercialism. Just get a jacket and ride!

qcsky 10-02-08 10:11 PM

i go to my LBS 3 times a week. they only deal louis garneau.

roastbeef 10-02-08 10:23 PM

got some good responses here. my dad gave me this north face windbreaker that is absolutely perfect. warm, light, and comfortable as hell. i can't figure out what it's called, but it has "hydrenaline" sewn into the sleeve.
