"rebranded formula"? Does Formula make hubs without holes in the flanges? But yeah, you can probably get something a little less suspect for that price.

Yeah, formula manufactures hubs without flange cut-outs. They also do different cut-out patterns.

looks like the vueltas on bikeisland.com. try there, they run as low as 120, and come with high recommendation for budget builds. includes cog, lockring, tubes, and tires.

Those are the Vueltas that Bike Island (same people as Bikes Direct) sells on ebay. (type in "vuelta fixed" into ebay)

They go for about $155 shipped. However, the seller on CL may have stressed and tensioned them for you, which they need. Mine came not too stressed (they say they are handbuilt) and I had to do it myself. If you weigh a lot, I would stay away. If you're under 175, go for it.

Formula hubs without cutouts are loose ball. The cheap formulas, all of the Formula hubs with cutouts I have seen are always the sealed bearing ones (with whoever's name on them).

Have you tried Urbane? If you have slightly more money to spend, I'm pretty sure their pre-built (but always hand-built!) formulas to alex da22s were something like $100 a wheel, with one free true. Could be off on the price, it's been a while since I've been in the market for a wheelset.

Buy just a back wheel, a Deep V,a formula hub and spokes should come to under 150 and then keep the front wheel. You can eventually get that new front wheel, but this way you don't spend too much and you get tarck points for a non-matched wheelset.

They also have some other wheelsets & since they hand build them they might be getting some more that show as Out of stock on the site.

~$40 shipping to Canada (I estimated using BC)

I think I paid $25 for shipping. They come in separate boxes and include a cheap cog, lock ring and rim tapes.

The OP is in Toronto. You'll want to factor in brokerage if it's not shipped USPS + taxes. Brokerage for Fedex/UPS to Canada is about $40.

A seemingly good internet deal becomes pretty ****ty usually unless you can somehow negate the shipping/taxes/customs. Some food for thought.

And if you have any problems with the wheelset. Good luck.

Can someone tell me how it's possible to get a set of wheels handbuilt for $97? The labour on a handbuilt wheelset is half of that price.

So either they're lying or they're getting their parts for nothing, or selling those wheelsets at a loss.

It's $140, that's to a DA-28 which is a stronger (and also heavier) rim. Although you can specify DA22 if you like.
