Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? California fixed gear centuries?

Hey there---I'm looking at doing a century on my fixed gear and was wondering what people thought about century rides in Northern California in the May-June window?

I saw the I Care Classic (ICC) webpage says that its relatively flat----but has anyone done it, how flat is it?

Any advice, ideas welcomed.

Lucklust is riding his Bianchi Pista in the AIDS Lifecycle, 500+ miles. That's sounds challenging and fun.

It's going to be a blast! jeremyb, I've started riding a 50 mile loop every Wednesday and a 100+ every Sunday. If you don't mind riding solo, there are some incredible rides out here in Marin County. I don't know much about organized centuries, but if you're ever in Marin, let me know, and I can tell you of a thousand different rides, from flat to rolling to thigh-burning-knee-killing-sadomasochistic torture-fests.

The Wine Country Century on May 1st might be a good bet, some people ride it fixed, but have only done it geared myself. It is very well supported and organized, and details are at https://srcc.com/
