First fixed gear
Hi guys,
I am interested in building a fixed gear bike. I have an old road bike that is in great shape. How easy is it to turn an old road bike (probably from the 80s) into a fixed gear. And what all do I have to do? Please help me as I am knew to this kind of riding and bikes. Thanks.

You'll need a new rear wheel, or rebuild the old wheel with a track cog.
You'll probably want to take one of the chainrings off, so you'll have to
get single stack bolts to make the one remaining chainring attach to
your cranks properly.

Yes. The big gears under your seat that are near your pedals. Try riding with different gear combos, to get an idea of what kind of gearing will work best for your style of riding and your enviroment, then when you decide which you like, take the other chainring off. Check out the resource thread for more info on al this stuff, and also sheldonbrown.com
