Ate it really hard on my Windsor the other day.
It was terrible. I swapped the stock 46t chainring for a 39t, hoping it'd be easier to skid and whatnot. So I rode pretty quick, leaned on my bars, locked my legs, then disaster. I don't even know what happened, but I got pretty messed up. Pedals threw me over my bars and I rolled onto my head, to my shoulder, to my back, to my hip, then to my knee. Missing chunks of skin everywhere. My handlebars got bent.

Might want to invest in brakes. That's why I'd pick the Messenger over the Windsor; brakes are built in.

Damn man, sorry to hear that? Have you been to the doctor? Don't want to find out a week from now you broke a bone or suffered a concussion or something.
Did anything else come loose? Did the chain skip off? Are the chain-ring bolts on tight? I'm just trying to figure out what went wrong. I figure, if it's a mechanical issue you can save yourself another crash if you find out what the hell happened.

I think you underestimated the power of the 39 tooth chainring. Thinking the change in chainrings would allow you to skid. You let your guard down and just as you went to skid, your bike bucked you off.

Did you hit a little dip or maybe a rock or something? With your weight teetering on the handlebars on top of going at a brisk pace, any sudden change in terrain could've sent you overboard.
BTW, I am still trying to figure out the appeal of this "skid" thing. Perhaps it's like the Tokyo Drift type of thing? Seems idiotic to me, but whatever. Flat spots on my tires would drive me crazy.

Saying everyone should have a brake is as bad as that idiot who says no one should ride with brakes.
Even if dude had a front brake for emergencies, he can't go out and figure out how to skid?! Give it a rest. He's trying to pick up a bike handling skill.

Maybe he just did it wrong 
No big deal, if you really want to learn how to do it try it again and again till you get it right (and thats coming from a guy that rides a SS and uses front AND rear brakes!

I still don't understand why you guys are telling him to get brakes. It's so irrelevant to his situation.
But anyways, I've always wondered what those MASH guys' gear ratios are. They make skidding look so easy, even at fast speeds.
