steel track frames with 1-1/8" threadless fork

Hey guys,

I am looking for a frame for a new project I got going on.

I need a steel track frame with 1-1/8" threadless fork option a la EAI Bareknuckle. Can you list some others off that I might be forgetting?

Bareknuckle is ideal but at over $700 now, taxed considering they were $400 only 2 years ago.
IRO Mark V is very reasonable.
Some Rush is well regarded but the graphics are cheesetastic.
Surly Steamroller - like the Rush, I don't care for the graphic.
Scattante SSR - I built one of these over the summer and sold it (flipping some parts i had laying around) and while it was a great ride, I never liked the slightly sloping top tube.

trying to see what I am forgetting that has fairly aggressive geometry although it doesn't have to necessarily be "track."

thanks.

those graphics are cheesetastic?

Yes. YMMV.

I agree. Soma has some bad logo design. That sunburst thing is pure hippie/frat boy stuff. Also, bad type choice period. But I remember a recent post saying that the graphics were over the clearcoat.

But the real question is, are there other options out there which I've missed? (Other than custom bikes, etc.)

The Raleigh Rush Hour, but I think you can only buy it complete. I love mine though.

erichsia 10-13-08 01:02 PM

Man, the more I look at that Soma sunburst, the more it looks like it needs to be tattooed on the lower back of a sorority girl doing kegstands at Papas N' Beers in Rosarito. Horrible.

The Rush has a 1" steertube.

triplesixer 10-13-08 01:12 PM

^ yes that's true.

Oh good to know. Now the choices are even more narrow.

triplesixer 10-13-08 01:16 PM

Min I would just go with the Bareknuckle. I have a few buddies who ride them and they love their frames. Or you could get a soma and sandblast it, then powdercoat it.

Waychel 10-13-08 01:47 PM

Motobecane Jury from BikeIsland.com? It has cable guides and really wide clearances though...

triplesixer 10-13-08 01:49 PM

^ no.

erichsia 10-13-08 01:56 PM

Not as aggressive geometry as the Rush, but the Soma Delancey has a 1 1/8" headtube. Lugged too :)

MIN 10-13-08 02:09 PM

Hey I just revisited the IRO site and I can't find the Mark V Pro frameset anymore. What gives?

triplesixer 10-13-08 02:29 PM

He may have discontinued it. He killed the rob roy recently.

joetotale 10-13-08 02:37 PM

get the steamroller and remove the decals.

daveed 10-16-08 11:53 AM

Anyone seen the steel bikes with 1 1/8-inch headtubes on ebay, for $224 (free shipping)?

In fact, has anyone bought one?

Sinn 10-16-08 12:00 PM

Check out Pake.

MIN 10-16-08 12:00 PM

How did you remove the graphics?

Sinn 10-16-08 12:03 PM

The Soma Delancey is also a cool lugged frame, but it may be out of your price range.

Still worth a look if only to rouse further desire.
