Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

i wonder how many teeth are on that chainring. 65? 70?

if gear inches really represent dick size, this man should start a career in porn...

Maybe you guys just ride slower or its super hilly and you need a 48x19
It's possible that alot of people who say "people running 70 GI just ride slow" just aren't comfortable spinning efficient cadences.

20mph cruising speed at 48x19 gearing would need you to spin 105 rpm. That's not so much "fast" as it is an efficient cycling cadence...

on my roadie i try to aim for 90 or so as an average, i find that more 'efficient' for any long distances.

im a newbie, i bought a fixie just a month ago, my bike is 48-15. Before this i didn't know what gear or teeth ratio is, i thought every bike is the same and im a f* puss* because i cant skid. After watching some vids on youtube i asked my self "why can some people learn to skid the first time they ride a fixie when it takes you days ???" then i tried really really hard, i even bruise my dick (it hurts alot) but finally i learned to skid in a week . im an asian and i weigh 70kg, im not a body builder, just a student. so what im trying to say is you dont need strong legs to skid on a 48-15, just try harder because 48-15 is still skidable

by the way im sorry for my english. is you find my comment insulting please dont be mad, i dont mean to insult anyone and if you dont believe me i cant make a vid to prove

u bruised ur dik???

g dam

b careful

but yo, tru dat asian brotha.

48x15? i used to run something like that, equivalent to 46x15. yes you CAN skid it, but i would rather have brakes for such a high gear. i figure you try to make your bike fit well so you can train well, but all the skidding and skipping and **** kind of gets in the way and tires you in a way unneeded... it is possible, and everyones prolly done it, but i'd rather be healthy than 'badass' plus you sound like a trol

i wouldnt try that with 48x15. its probably POSSIBLE, but i think you might mess your knees up. try 47x17 or 44x17 or something

I can skid with any gearing - just grab a handful of rear brake.
