Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? And yet more..

4 bikes there. One runs.

My wife made a comment, and now, something's gotta go.

Surely the wife and not the bikes.

But alas, my garage and basement look about the same.

So will you actually miss her? My wife knows better than to make a coment like that. Just last night I was breaking her down a little. As I was polishing the chrome on my fork I commented that it was starting to get a little rust and that is time for a new bike. I will have to continue this angle for a while to see how long it takes for her to ask what I plan on getting.

Hey man, that Mixte is not your responsibility. See, I just eliminated 1 bike from <your> total. Now you can go get another for yourself.

The mixtie is my daughter's. It's a joint project, and we've been doing a slow build on it. My wife put the "brakes" on the mixtie ~ it's not allowed to be a fixed gear..

Then there these wheels. I've got 2 pairs of 27"'s. 1 pair of MTB wheels. And a couple of boxes of.. misc.

Piles

Hey, it's not the number of bikes hanging from the roof, It's the clutter on the floor she minds. If you organize the clutter on the floor onto shelving, then that will make it look like you have fewer bikes than you previously did. Ergo, More bikes would fit. Works for me every time.

Bikes: Can't stand the damn things...

I broke up with a girl a few weeks ago over my fixie. She said that I was spending too much time "playing" with my bike. She said it was either her or the bike. I said "well honey, you ain't gotta go home, but you can't stay here."

She slapped me and walked out

I get the same thing too, how many bikes can you ride. My reply, all of them. My bikes are stored in the furnace room, my garage has all of the tools, table saw, band saw, etc. I get to hear about how she would like to park the car in there, not going to happen. Anyway here is the space. And my youngest after he went off the trail and over the bars of his bike.

I am single and I think your garage looks clean and empty!!

Also get those bikes in your house, they do NOT belong in a garage!

Thank you, misogynists!

Right now the roommate and i have 5 in the kitchen/laundry room and more on the way. I am lucky though, I can store the in-process projects at our local bike coop. yay!

lala,
we just happened to be married or have girlfriends. if we were gay and our boyfriends didn't understand our love for bikes we'd be complaining about them. We're equal opportunity complainers.

I'd be complaining too, if I was y'all.
Thanks for the kind words, tho.
Girls, straight or otherwise, are rather outnumbered and sometime it gets tiresome.

On thread: the roommate was starting to complain til i gave him my ol' raleigh SS conversion to ride: now he's smiling and cleaning the kitchen!

My bikes and my wife's bike are all in our house. I think whoever told you to organize your piles is on to something. As long as I don't spread bike stuff all over our place and let it stay there for more than a couple of days, she's all good. I have a couple of parts boxes, tools, three bikes plus Wifey's bike in one room of our place. Havin' one of those bike stands that gets all of the bikes off of the floor helps a lot, too. Looks better than havin' them all over the place.

Bikes: Orbea Enol roadie, Fly Micromachine BMX, Fort Track fixed

My mum asked me why I need three bikes today. 'I dunno' was my reply. I'm probably gonna sell the BMX though. Better not tell her I'm getting another SS as soon as I can afford it

Bikes: fixies, fixies, and the ss cruiser

my wife wanted to park the car in the garage, of all things...so i converted the room in the basement that was supposed to be the "office/library" to "internet port/bikeshop".

so much for fresh paint, a new laminate floor, and trim.

computer table, workstand, table full of tools. i'm working on the workbench with parts bins and whatnot.

and the reprints of vintage cycling posters...

i wonder if grease will come off the laminate.
