Veloce ultra-torque. the new veloce uses the cheaper and more standard power-torque system.

Veloce and centaur ultra-torque cranksets are a steal right now. Buy them while you can.

Thanks for the assist; you must've looked them up, unless you're a campy fan with the catalog memorized to heart  :p

Campy fan...

If you need to know anything about late 8spd to current campy just ask.

adriano 09-30-11 10:53 AM

whats the bang for buck sweet spot right now for eight to ten speed campy?

Cynikal 09-30-11 11:03 AM

Where can I find 8 speed parts?

8spd prices are on the climb and the internal parts for shifters are NLA. They are durable groups and easy on the eye but I would stay away unless you want a period build on a nice frame.

I'm not a big campy 9 fan. The first year of record titanium 9spd was great but recod and chorus moved to 10spd quickly. Most campy 9 is cheaper stuff and not readily avalible.

The bang for the buck is in veloce and centaur 10spd. Look for components that are a few years older. These groups used to use ultra-torque, ultra-shift, and skeleton brakes much like the high end groups.

New centaur and veloce use power-torque, power-shift, and standard brakes. These parts are still every bit as good as shimano and sram but they are cheaper to manufacture than the "ultra" parts. Before this "downgrade" campy was just priced too high and their low end was too good.

If you buy new, buy from the UK. You can get campy from these places as cheap as, or cheaper, than shimano or sram groups. I just bought backup bottom bracket bearings for my ultra-torque cranks for $35 shipped. In the US they sell for $80+...

Cassettes are still avalible new and for chains use a record 9spd (still avalible)

Other pars need to be found on ebay and the c&v forum...

There is some compatability as well. You can use 10spd cranksets and some other parts can be modified to work if you are set on 8spd. Pm me if you need more info.

campagnolo keeps downgrading ten to push everyone to eleven.

thirdgenbird 09-30-11 11:38 AM

Oh, if you are building a cross bike just get the new power-shift and power-torque. I think it is better suited here.

They had to downgrade. Centaur 10 was almost as good as record and too expensive. Despite the downgrades I would still take centaur over force or ultegra.

One note, centaur 10 chains and cassettes were updated to 10spd chorus level. Great for record 10 users like myself.

i think id like to try a campagnolo on road frame one day, but dont worry, folks. a sweet fixie is the on deck.

Go 11 or find ultra shift 10 ergo levers. Multiple shifts are where its at.

adriano 09-30-11 12:00 PM

being able to shift into the little and dump a bunch of gears in one press seems neat. dumping three seems sufficient though.

not that you ever find a real hardened fixie rider in the little ring.

The thumb shifter is iffy for me, but it works well for dumping the whole cassette. It is a cool feature but not particularly special for me. Campy shifting is super clean though :thumb:

really, really not prawn.

its a bummer that colossi, a chinese factory, wont sell to individuals.

EpicSchwinn 10-06-11 06:55 PM

Frame is pr0n but everything else is on a spectrum ranging from meh to jack.

hwdxbassist 10-06-11 06:59 PM

nicely put. that frame has a lot of potential. the white high profile rims and the gold chain just doesn't go with what else is going on.

jpaschall 10-06-11 07:25 PM

looks like the front rim is machined also ----> *****kill
