Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I don't understand why the orange Kilo isn't considered 'porn'.
It has clean lines and the basket just works.
Beausage is wonderful and so are carefully considered bikes.

You had to see this bike in person... the lugs were hand made, tubing was custom drawn, the chain ring is custom, and the finish is amazing. The bike is set up to be run as an SS but as a fixed gear has no rear brake and no need for that extra cable

DiNucci was a great builder who has been working in the background for some time but has stepped forward to start building bikes again.

I have a lot of pictures... met some legendary builders like Newland and Anderson, loved Ahearne's and Peirera's work, and was most impressed by Matt at M.A.P. Cycles.

The number of fixed gear bikes was also very impressive.

It is designed for riding in Amsterdam where weight is not a factor.

Toni Merkens at the Berling Olympics(1936). Unfortunate about that swastika but those handlebars/stem are awesome.

The British before and after WWII were very big on the time trial race. Probably because mass start road racing was not allowed(the upper crust absolutely detested the commoners having the mobility afforded by the bicycle). This is a prewar time trial race where the riders turned around and there was a feeding station at the turn.

Through the 1950s time trial bikes were usually fixed gear bikes. Fitted with a front brake and a stop watch on the handlebars.
This is from 1957. Love those hubs. {actually, they are quick release mechanisms}
