Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Wierd

The wierdest thing happened to me today when i was riding. I had been riding for about 5 minutes, then stopped at a light. As i was pulling away, i got up to my usual speed, and reached down to shift!! I guess my mind drifted and i thought i was on my mountain bike for a second. Anyone else had an urge to shift for some odd reason?

It is one of those conditioned reflex things. Usually a result of riding multi geared bikes at the same time that you ride fixed. The only known cure is to sell all the other bikes or convert them to fixed and then there will be no possible recurrence of this annoying tendency.

Occasionally, along with the futile attempts to coast. More and more I find my fixie habits intruding on the geared realm. Riding for miles and miles on the Lemond, then suddenly realizing I could shift. Lifting the rear wheel of the bike to bring the pedal round when mounting. Situational awareness. Ignoring the brake levers...........opps.
