I read the carbon fork threads and couldn't find the answer but did find a ton of useful info.
I might put a carbon fork on my Schwinn conversion and want to know if it's easy to strip and repaint a carbon fork just like I have done with steel frames. I either need to repaint the fork or the frame.
The fork was intended for a Schwinn Ti Paramount, circa 1999.

You don't _need_ to repaint fork nor frame, you just want to. It's a bad bad bad idea to sand the clear and paint off carbon because the factory probably had materials scientists and engineers setting up the proper paint and you're probably neither if you're asking here. However it's only slightly dodgy to wetsand the fork's clearcoat down to a dull finish, primer, paint, and clear again. YMMV, YTMKO (your teeth may knock out).

yeah i wouldn't sand carbon and i wouldn't apply any chemical thinners to carbon either since it might compromise the resin (impregnating material).

Dont listen to this ****, I have three forks that have all been painted and ridden for quite awhile. I didnt strip them first I just lightly sanded to abrade the surface so that the paint would adhere better. One I has even been repainted two or three different times and its the one that gets the most use/abuse. The task is far easier than ya think, just go do it!

You can paint them fine. CF usually has a thick enough coat above the weave. My buddy works at an autobody shop and paints over CF parts all the time.

Thats what I figure. You would have to do some pretty heavy sanding to risk the forks integrity.

why dont you just sand the finish, prime, and paint over top of the existing finish.

i lightly scuffed the surface of my fact carbon fork and painted it with flat black engine enamel. just dont comprimise the actual carbon and you should be fine. i wouldnt use any chemical means to strip either.

what kind of seatpost is that?

Should I make the fork white or the bike blue?
