Let's try not to use that word, bro.

And for the record, there are plenty of black folk who enjoy riding FG. It's got a lot more to do with SES than it does with skin color. Then again, pretty much everything in society is the same way.

oh, skullz? on the cast of family guy? no crap? whodathunk...zzzzzzzzzzz!
Don't knock Kaws. If you ever saw his work in person, you would appreciate it more. His lines and painting are perfect. It's like someone blew up some cel shaded work. He does other things than adding his signature skull and cross bones to famous cartoons.

Artists are like bands, everyone will have their fans and haters.

PS - I love Shep Fairey(Obey) as well, but they're totally different styles, but I do not think Fairey's paintings/prints sell for as much as Kaws. Kaws' paintings can easily hit $100k with eager buyers lined up for it. But that doesn't guage a painter's skill.

Either way Greg Simkins would tear either of them up when it comes to skill...try looking him up, I have a couple of prints from him, and a giclee canvas. You won't be disappointed.

I'm more concerned about Pharrel's apparent last of musical talent than with his choice in bicycles.

comparing kaws to shep is comparing apples to oranges. two different things. I dig obey stuff, it's all good, but kaws put in work writing graffiti in nyc in the nineties, and was a pioneer in the whole streetart/culturejamming thing with his subway and bus ads. also theres several documented cases of shep blatantly biting vintage war posters and what not...

either way, both good artists.

Sheppard Fairey is a mediocre graphic designer with no message other than padding his pockets with lame, half-cocked political art that he pilfered from extreme left wing movement artists.

Haven't really paid attention to Obey in a while, but I don't think Fairey has ever made any qualms about wearing his influences on his sleeve. Overblown and overexposed as he is, you'd have to be living under a rock to not see what he's lifting and re-appropriating. KAWS, on the other hand, is a one trick pony who's managed to make his trick seem eternally hip. How many x'ed out eyes can this guy put on a new media? The possibilities are endless

Evan Hecox and Aaron Horkey, now there's some crazy ****.

Actually I think Pharrell is a pretty cool guy and I wouldn't be surprised if he actually rides his bike more than the average, non-celebrity American does. Does he need a bike that NICE? Probably not, but let's face it, when you have as much money as he does, you will probably have a nice bike, even if it is secondary to a career in music. Personally, I don't begrudge him of having a better bike than I have, lol.

EDIT: P.S. Is it even his bike? I mean this pic wasn't posted with much context.

agreed, all I'm saying is that without Kaws, alot of the stuff shepard fairey has done wouldn't be goin on. Kaws was one of the first people to 'culture jam' and reclaim ads and billboards. Of course you could say Kaws was just copying Cost+Revs, and so on and so on....

either way, both good artists imo.

Not Pharrell. If I remember correctly, they're actually high school kids from Davis(?), CA. All the girls in the video look pretty young, rumor was they're from the schools dance / cheer team.

*edit*

Just checked, they were from Berkley High, not Davis.

i'm not saying he was in the video....i'm saying he produced the beat...either that or he basically jacked it for another one of his songs...like this:

Yeah.. As someone who makes beats/ music, it's kinda irritating to hear these kindergarten, took-15-seconds-to-make, beats with "Lil Skateboard P." (HAHAHA) rapping about where he vacations and his Enzo. Who really cares? I mean, I realize some people actually do. I just don't get it. I feel like it takes away from talented producers (not implying that I am one) who put a lot of time and effort into making it sound interesting and different. I like minimalism but that's just ridiculous.

That's because The Pack are from Berkeley. They're a small bay area group who got some-what "big" because of that song. So I wouldn't be surprised if those girls are from Berkeley High.
