Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Good fixie for cheap?? (ebay link inside)

https://cgi.ebay.com/55cm-Track-Fixed...d=p3286.c0.m14

I came across this today and I am thinking about bidding on the bike. The main purpose of this bike is to use on an indoor trainer over the winter, and I will also train on the bike outdoors when the weather is nice. This is mainly to get into shape and get into the fixed gear world.

Is this bike decent if I can end up getting it for $200 or under SHIPPED.

TIA guys.

You get what you pay for. With that being said, this bike shouldn't be purchase. Spend the extra buck to get a BikesDirect bike. You will pay almost double, but the quality will be quadruple. I recommend the Motobecane Messenger, but the new Windsor Clockwork looks very nice as well.

Since you brought up Windsor, I figured I would post this as well: A Windsor The Hour for $300 shipped.

Is that a better deal, or still not recommended?

Thats one of the bikesdirect.com bikes I was speaking of. For a full line-up checke out https://www.bikesdirect.com/products/road_bikes.htm under the ss/track section. You can pick which one is best for you based on need for brakes, freewheel, and any other wants.

I agree that BD has some good deals. Just make sure you take the bike to your lbs to have it looked over if you're not into tuning your own bike.

My friend had to have his rims tuned up before he could ride his Hour.

Good luck!

+1

The assembly is easy enough, but some of the wheels aren't trued on arrival. Mine were, and have stayed that way since, but it is one thing that must be checked out (on any bike coming through the mail or that is being shipped)

Obviously that question is sarcasm, but does the term "fixie" not go over well on this board? I hear people use it quite often around my area..

Also, thanks for the advice everyone. I think I am just going to spend a little more and get one off of bikesdirect.com.

Yeah, we try to stay away from that word, or at least I do. Glad you figured out what you wanted! Bikes Direct is very quick if they have your item in stock. My bike got ordered on a monday and came that friday. Hope you enjoy whatever bike you get.

The bike rides good. The wheels need to be tensioned out of the box and the cog and lockring need to be tightened, but it works. I have been riding mine 3 or 4 days a week for three months with no problems.
