Butchering Brooks
This is primarily for The Fixer, but all comments welcome...anyway, love the Cinelli and esp. the Brooks Pro. I'm wondering if it's flapped & tied on the bottom above the rails. I have a Team Pro coming from momo, weigh 175 on a fat day, and wondered whether it should be tied (after cutting/trimming) to support my rather average girth...want to make it into a pseudo-Swallow. Thanks in advance.

Thanks Dan, I have, but the only weight/support info I see is for a B17 and a 160 lb rider. I don't know how thick the leather is on a Pro...I have a Swift which supports me fine (stock, without being tied) but again not sure about the Pro and if the side flaps that I intend to remove are there to provide needed reinforcement.

I think if you dropped an e-mail to Wallingford Bike or one of the guy's who's work is shown on the page. They might be able to answer your questions and make some helpful suggestions.

hello
dabern.... I think the Professional is the best candidate for butchering without the need for support simply due to its extra stiffness. I weigh 160 and none of my saddles are tied.

I've owned this Swift for about a year now and recently decided to butcher it. Not much cutting involved on this one.......it was somewhat sleek to begin with. Absolutely no difference in ride quality.

Thanks for the info, George, I won't sweat chopping it up then and am happy not having to leave flaps for lacing together. BTW, excellent work, both of those Brooks look sweet. Thanks again for responding.
