Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Just saying hi

New guy here, thought I would drop in and say hi! Currently riding on a bit of a frankenstein, an old cannondale F1000 that has been stripped down to rear derailer only, riding on 1.25 slicks. It's my commuter and has been a fun bike. Winter just hit, so commuting is not as fun anymore, but next year I would love to go SS. Also have been wanting a fixie for a while now...

howdy, a word of advise. There is no such thing as a fixie, please eliminate it from your vocabulary.

Hey. Riding fixed is fun as poop. Give it a go sometime.

First time you ride one, you'll think "so that's what those jerks are always talking about".

Welcome! Now I've noticed that the dreaded term "fixie" is a faux pa here. I'm going to let myself look like a jerk and ask why? lol Personally I think it sounds like a vasectomy victim.

its simple really. Its not a word. Fixed and gear are words. Fixie is just a slang that has become a buzz word to sell parts to band wagon jumping kids*. Thats why the spell checker puts a little red squigly underline underneath of it when you type it. It simply doesn't exist.

*I have no problem with more people riding bikes, just the fact that its a fashion accessory more than a useful tool.
