For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
For instance, in order to impress your peers with your trackstanding ability, you will first have to be ridiculed by your peers for the occasional 0 mph fall that will inevitably result from practicing said trackstands.
It's pretty zen, if you think about it.

Just a thought.
Wouldn't learning to skid on a coaster help? I went straight to skid on a fixie, but I know some people gonna have some difficulties. But then usually few falls generally help you learn right?
... Or are you talking about those professional riders who skid like 10 yards?

i tried riding in circles right into a trackstand but i fell down and scraped my face up.
something weird happened. my bike doesn't have brakes but all the sudden i was flying over my bars like i had a front brake and i just grabbed really hard.
weird.
i think maybe my foot hit the front tire. how the hell does that even happen?

practice indoors because this way it forces you to not over correct and you might run into something, practice makes perfect and make sure your feet are in the right position with your bars...watch some videos too if you are a visual learner
the other day i trackstanded no hands while taking my backpack off to get some gloves, i got the gloves put them on and then put my bag back on and rode away...it feels good to really get them down, good luck! oh and that thing that happened with your feet is called toe overlap i am surprised you don't know about that

this is how i learned to trackstand:
https://www.63xc.com/gregg/101_12.htm
just stand on your pedals and pedal as slowly as possible...whenever your feet get to 3 and 9 just stop pedaling and try to keep your balance and your bike in that one spot...you will turn your wheel towards your front foot and you will pedal back and forth...don't jerk on the pedals just gently push back and forth as needed...
imagine yourself standing in the middle of a seesaw...equal pressure on both feet...pedals flat...that's what it should feel like...

Get brakes. Avoid getting broken. That is all.

Professional hipster fixed gear cyclists only measure skids in meters or shaku. Duh.

Define old. I've found adult women of most ages measure and count. Maybe your uncle Donnie was too psychotic to experience certain shared joys in life.

Yeah! I just saw it on the youtube. People do 100+ yards average. Geez I am missing out.
As for track standing, you have to really think what you are trying to do. But then it is never easy to understand. It is intuitive to assume that you are trying to balance with your handle. ... But this is not true.
What you are doing is to balance yourself using your pedals/cranks. Observe carefully how track standings are done on Youtube. You see people has their front wheel 40-60 degree to the side; never straight forward.
Now get on your bike and the do the same thing. But this time imagine your rear wheels stay stationary. If you have your wheels at 40-60 degrees, your bike will move sideways. (slightly in circular manner)
Now think. How do you usually fall on the track-stand tries? ... To your side, left or right. You never fall forward or backward when track standing. You have your wheels that prevent that. So all you need to do to balance your bike in track stand is to have a way to adjust your weight sideways (left or right).
So what's up with me saying your balancing your pedals? When track standing with front wheel turned 40-60 degrees, pedaling forward or backward results in you going left or right. ... Which is why you failed, Darth Vader. You going in circles indicates you don't really understand what you are trying to accomplish. (Then again, I must have spend months trying to understand this thing. So don't feel bad.)
Now go practice.

P.S. What's up with your name, Darth? Everything I type sound like I am repeating stuffs off the movie. ... Well you could stick with your glow stick thingie. You can still get girls with glow sticks, right?

Trackstands are easier if you think about the fact that you arent really moving front and back, but side to side, because your bars are turned sideways. Turn the bars towards whichever foot you ride forward.
