As for our courts, they are derived from the British common law system (remember, we are still technically a commonwealth), EXCEPT, interestingly, in Quebec, where they have a civil code. Both are subject to our Charter.
Honestly, I find it amazing that we didn't really have any effective constitutional protection until 1982, but I guess every country grows at it's own pace.

OP got stopped while out on a ride, police haul him to jail for 6 hrs because they think he is on drugs. OP thinks he was bieng hassled.
