Sharpie + Kilo?

Anyone tried to sharpie their logos off a black bike? I tested out a small area and it doesn't look too off, was wondering if anyone had tried it on a larger surface. I'll prob just try it, worst thing would be it getting covered with electrical tape in the end...

pics to come soon

just spray black paint over it. or sand first, then spray.

There's this glossy black vinyl sheets that matches the black on the kilo perfectly. You can see it if you look up close, but otherwise it's virtually unnoticeable.

OR, you can buy the frame off of bikeisland and replace all the parts.....

repaint the damn thing or get over it.

Don't use sharpie. If you coloring a large area, it's not going to look right. And it's more brown in the light than it is black.

do you happen to know where to find this?

JayNev 11-22-08 11:06 PM

ebay, just use electrical tape if u want to go that route. but really, temporary solution

Dustintendo 11-22-08 11:11 PM

well i figured the vinyl stuff might look a bit better

Nietzsche 11-22-08 11:57 PM

I think im going to use gaffers tape on mine... its more dark grey than black but if done correctly it'll look alright...

bionnaki 11-23-08 12:10 AM

sharpie ink is more purple/brown than black.

JayNev 11-23-08 12:37 AM

its a cheap frame, cheap paint, it just doesn't really matter..

NotSoProjectPat 11-23-08 01:17 AM

i would prolly just sand/spray the whole thing and end with a nice smooth matte black.... or white or blue or whatever color you feel like

its understandable if you don't wanna do all this but i wouldn't do sharpie as an alternative

synapsemusic 11-23-08 01:25 AM

or just be OK with having the decals on your bike

i would be ok with the good looking mercier decals but i myself want to cover up the decals on a fantom cross uno.

nice bike, vomit inducing decals.

I think the logos would look much better than an off color sharpie marker. Unless you paint the whole frame its not going to look uniform.

It's more for theft, I'm affraid of leaving my shinny new Kilo here in BK, maybe i'll skip the sharpie and just uglify it with some old inner tubes and electrical tape for now. I dont have the time to do a nice new paint job yet.

cc700 11-23-08 02:12 PM

it's a kilo, who cares if it doesn't match?

i'd paint or use vinyl sticker material, but whatever.

If its for theft and you want it to look ugly why are you even asking?

Nietzsche 11-23-08 04:43 PM

Ok I've heard of this before but how strange is that... making your bike ugly on purpose so people don't try to rip it off. Why not lock it up properly instead? Something difficult to steal will always get passed over for a bike that's not so hard to steal nearby.

Coomer 11-24-08 04:39 AM

dddave, do you have any close-up pics of the electrical tape treatment? Your bike looks great.

ZiP0082 11-24-08 06:40 AM

I used 3M scotchlite reflective tape on the large logos, and sharpie on the 2 on the seatstays.
