44/17 is great, i switched when i came to school in pittsburgh (i climb a 1/5 mile hill every day to my home) from my 42/15. when i go back to philly itll be 46/17 if i can find a chainring.

my pista just got in. but it has 16t cog. i might change it after awhile.

OK guys, I'm a retro grouch FG noob. I normally post over at C&V, but I recently did a ghetto FG conversion on a '78 Schwinn Traveler III, and set it up with 48 x 17. It seemed slightly tall for me, but it's relatively flat in Indy. I want to try something different. I have a 50/34 compact crank, and thought I would try a 34 x 13 or 34 x 14. Is there any advantage or benefit to big chainring over smaller one, or does it really matter? Is it aesthetics that drives the use of big ring?

I am going to buy a 17 tooth cog for my new Kilo TT Pro. I am not sure which size to buy, the 1/8 or the 3/32? Can anyone help me out? Also, I will not need a lockring correct?? THANKS

xlazymx 12-05-08 10:59 AM

depends on your crankset its probably 1/8th. most fixed gears are

blueyesrise 12-05-08 11:29 AM

its whichever sugino crankset that comes on the TT Pro. the chain says its "1/8 or 3/32 NoChoice". so i guess either size will work??

Well, a 3/32 cog will work with a 1/8 chain or a 3/32 chain. a 1/8 cog will only work with a 1/8 chain.

guhjeeh 12-05-08 11:44 AM

49/17 should i go 49/18 or 49/19 for better braking.

I'm on 48x16 now, was 46x16 for a few months. I definitely like the 48x16 more.

Bringing an old thread back really isn't any worse than starting a new thread...IMHO.

Aren't they great?

Also my ratio is 48x17 which is the best ratio.
