Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? BASIC fixed gear tricks

im a relatively new fixed gear rider; probably six months or so.

i ride to and from work/school.

so far, im loving it.

and one day id like to learn to play bike polo just because it looks like so much fun.

but there are a few BASIC tricks that i would like to learn how to do first.

such as skids and track stands and maybe ride backwards.

whenever i see a thread about fixed gear tricks, they are always something a lot more complicated, or skilled then i can do right now.

just looking for some advice for simple fixed gear tricks.

thanks guys.

i don't typically tell people to use the search function, but seriously, you will find TONS on this subject.

get up as much speed as you can, then put both feet over the handlebars and take your hands off

RAW

but seriously, isn't there an entire forum dedicated to fixed gear tricking?

I seriously learned to do trackstands by practicing for about 10-15 minutes everyday. I had them in a week maybe.

If threads like this piss you off, imo, boycott them.

Yeah, they crop up like every 2 days, but still ... no use for negativity in avoidable cases like this.

so you've been riding for a half a year and cannot track stand or skid?
I learned skids in the first week of riding my fixedgear, and track stands within the second day. My suggestion to learning to skids is just learning how to hop up the back wheel when moving at a moderate pace, then go from there.

How can you manage to ride to and from work/school without trackstanding, do you ride without retention?

Type in stuff like "fixed tricks" and whatnot into youtube. You should be able to figure the stuff out.

Don't bother with the basic stuff, jumpy right in to the leg over handlebar skid, balls on stem skid. once you have that down everything else will be easy
