S3x

I know some members are interested in the situation with SA S3X hubs and delivery date.

I was just told by factory that hubs would be in late week in Sept; Kilo S3X and S3X wheelsets shipped first week in October. So they should land around Nov 10th.

Only about 3 months late - not bad for a new product

The one we are testing is very nice and I think we may use this hub on other bikes too.

Good to hear. I imagine your bulk order probably has priority over those of us waiting to get one through retail channels. The rep for the distributer at Canada's version of Interbike promised he could get the hubs soon, but didn't have a display model.
Hopefully some more concrete news will come out of Interbike in the next little bit.

According to the specs published so far it is like the ASC. Top gear is direct with reduction gears for low and second. Specs are in the 2009-2010 SA catalog downloadable from their web site.

Gear ratios are 62.5%, 75% and 100% so the steps are fairly wide range, particularly the 2 to 3 step.

It has been discussed before but is anyone else worried these will sell out like a wii at christmas and the only way to get one will be to pay 2 or 3 times retail on ebay from some arsehole who purchased a dozen of them just to resell? I really want one of these to replace the SRAM S-7 I currently shoehorned into the back of my Motobecane Messenger.

Seems like people would rather have crap on time than patience and a decent product.

I am hoping to run the s3x all winter on my Fantom Uno (if I can get my hands on a bikeisland wheel before they sell out). Riding everyday on hills + salt + sand + snow + 30F to -30F temps, plus some snowmobile trails and frozen creeks should be a good test for it. I can't wait.

Its a steel frame. Cold setting it can be done by a bike shop with the right tools.

I'll just have to see what can be done.
