Yeah saw this bike on my local CL, where he gives a much more reasonable price: $2200.

(that was sarcasm btw)

I don't even think that works anymore. And the most you could have got off that thing was $200.

the attitude of "since I spent ___ on this bike, I should get every penny back when i sell it!" always cracks me up. some people with vintage autos do that too. its a stubornness and an unwillingness to come to grips with reality. nobody will pay that for someone else's creation that is used.

Precisely I sold my old bike for quite a loss but I sold it to a close friend. So the joy of now having someone else to ride with outweighs the extra money I could only dream of getting. The only thing you can even come close to getting your money back on is electronics within a reasonable amount of time. Then the value tanks like the Exxon Valdez.

I look for 50% off the original retail cost when I'm shopping for used anything. I think that is pretty standard. Sometimes people will pay a little more, but nobody will refund a seller 100% of cost. if someone is ready to spend $2400, they could just pick their own parts and do a better job.

Interesting, there is the calculus of appreciation and depreciation. A 1964 VW bug in excellent shape was worth quite a bit less than list in 1965 but given the same condition would be worth quite a bit today. I wonder about these Bare Knuckles since they are discontinued. Overpriced but now finite.
