need straps
My girl friend got me some Welgo pedals for Christmas and I really need to get my feet in some safetly lol. I honestly dont know where to begin for looking at straps or something along that line for them. What should I or do I need t obe safe and secure without spending a ton of money...and of course looking good as well. My Welgos are white and silver.
Thanks, Free |
I've been riding/using these for 7-8 months, and I DO NOT recommend them.
http://www.benscycle.net/bmz_cache/4...ge.900x598.jpg I don't recommend them because within those several months, the buckles have completely stripped the texture and color off the strap, making them slip in and out of the buckle. I'm also using a front brake, so any reverse pressure on the pedals is minor compared to someone going completely brakeless. I've brought this topic up a couple months ago, and people seem to say that Soma double straps are crap, and everyone seems to agree Toshi Doubles are where it's at, even though they're insanely priced. I can't tell you that from experience, but I ordered some recently so we'll see. |
the best straps i've ever used are the campagnolo record straps. you can get them at ben's. they're not cheap, but they're the killerest. you can cut them down to size and use the included buttons to "finish" them.
yes they're leather, yes leather is murder, but nos doesn't count. (right?) 8( |
wait wait. You want cheap AND quality straps? Dude, this is the world of cycling, you're gonna hafta pick one or the other.
Cheap? - MKS Quality? - Toshi These are my suggestions: Enjoi |
mks have good straps too...

FEETBELTS or POWER GRIPS
http://tussle666.blogspot.com/2008/1...feetbelts.html Feetbelts straps use the PowerGrip mounting Hardware. Never tried them tho HAhaha! |
dont waste time with nonlaminated straps!
|
pake straps are alright at $20

Why not buy the cheapest pair you can, be it nylon or leather, and see what you do and do not like about them? Once you've put in your time with them, you'll be much better prepared to make a better, more costly, decision.

I bought a pair of christophe straps at the LBS 6 months ago for $10. Killer straps, no slippage they have been ridden in the rain, I do skid here and there and they are really reliable straps.
My advice is do not waste your money on expensive straps. They are all the damn same, I have ridden in toshi's and there is not difference from them to my $10 straps. |
oh please.

+1 on the Christophe straps. I've been running those for over a year and a half now and they're still good. I bough 2 pairs and made my own doublers for about $25 total, I would never buy toshi doubles at that outrageous price now that I made these.

I think I have come to the conclusion that straps will jut get in my way. I do a lot of short commuting, nothing more than a couple of miles to and fro school, lbs, etc. I am def. going to try them but I am unsure that I will approve as many on this forum have.
commit to riding them for two weeks, you won't want to get rid of them. |
Straps definitely add to the equation for me, though I can by no means say I'm at the level where I need expensive straps. You may well be at that same point.
Decent leather straps are fine for me for right now, and they were the right price (cheap). The nice thing about leather is that it is relatively stiff, and will stay open to permit ease of entrance and exit. I don't run my straps particularly tight either for now, as being prepared to get out is worth more to me than the "increased performance." Far, far better than not having clips and straps though; incomparable even. |

you wouldn't slip if you had some sweet snug-tight swede leather doublers to go with those cristophe straps. . . :D

did you make those?
|
that is quite lovely, i think i'll try to make some too.
|
Yes I made those and I am running a 1" bolt to hold the front strap in place.
|
can you outline your process, or did you use an existing howto? my gf can benefit from this.
|
I just bought the leather and sort of played it by ear in front of the machine. I do know I bought a 8x10" sheet of suede leather from the fabric store and I was able to make the complete pair and had 2 smaller pieces left over I turned into small doublers like the cadence model. I did take measurements of my pedals before I cut the leather and wrote it down, I can post it up once I find it.
