I thought this thread was about dicks now?

My one is red.

sprinterdellacasa.blogspot.com has some good posts on the relationship between customers and local bike shops.

I don't understand how the OP could figure out how to post this on here and not be able to figure out how to look up how to measure for a bike online? Maybe what he meant was he asked the LBS to measure his dick?

darksiderising 01-16-09 12:04 PM

^ OP is perv.

You guys better not touch dicks. It's likely to result in a matter/anti-matter explosion.

Don't listen to a few of these LBS owners posting responses on their free time. I think you should find another LBS. For them to decline you after offering to pay is ridiculous. The fitting would be treated as a service and you would've probably ended up buying more gear from that shop.

I've seen that short-sightedness before but luckily there are plenty of shops here in Pasadena, CA to choose from. There is one that remains nameless that I will not revisit despite the excellent gear they carry. When service suffers, time to go elsewhere... If you don't have many LBS choices then I guess you're screwed.

He said something along the likes of, "You come in to my bike shop, asking me to fit you for a bike you're buying from someone else!?"

I reply, "Yeah, I'm not going to beat around the bush and lie to you."

The guy would not help me after this. He told me to ask the company I am buying from.

Long story short, sometimes asking to get fitted can cause some ****ing drama. With that ****ty attitude, its a wonder how they stay in business.

Anyone else had an experience like this? I was blown away.

I'm thinking that the OP was a joke because anyone with an ounce of sense knows that in order to stay in business, it's best to not give free services to any jerk who wants to purchase online and the info that you offered to pay for these services is just a lie. The little bit of money you spent in the last month just won't keep them afloat. Your the kind of customer that can take their business (or lack of it) elsewhere.

I'm in real estate sales and the first question I ask a prospective buyer on one of my listings is "who is your agent". When they tell me I always tell them to contact their agent and have them show the property. I am not going to waste my time showing property just to have them write an offer with someone else.

Acres and acres of dicks.

Perhaps a fitting for a purchased bike is free and any other bikes brought in would be at a cost. The bottom line is that if you want to remain in business, you need to think out of the box and offer services that people want.

Not true. To stay in business you have to offer services CUSTOMERS want. You can piss off all the non customers you want, and in fact, you're better off not wasting time on non paying customers entirely.

peabodypride 01-16-09 05:41 PM

can we talk about hot dogs and/or dicks again?

"Dick in a bun" also rhymes with "step one" so, y'know, it's got that going for it...

I don't own a shop, I just work at one. I am willing to bet that the OP is skewing some of the story to make himself look like less of a chump. He wanted free service and was probably pretty aggressive.

EDIT: But I like your implied idea of a LBS owner conspiracy to wreck online sales.
