The Evolution of Your Bike

post a pic of your bike when you got it, then post a pic now.

if you want to rag on people do it in the hate thread, lets try and make this a pic heavy and positive thread.

If you dig risers, TT pads, positive stem rise, drops, open pros, deep v's, aerospokes, strapless, clipless, power grips whatever it works for each of us and odds are someone out there digs it

We all upgrade because either it worked for us or we just like it, so give people props if you share the same sentiments, if not find the next bike you dig.

most of us are on a budget and always improving/swaping parts so lets keep this thread rolling

week i got it (put on the new bars and chainring, otherwise stock):

and currently:

the one thing that is an open forum is to make fun of my punctuation and/or spelling

xMadTurkx 01-18-09 09:43 PM

stem seatpost frontwheel nice! what happened to the toe strap?

Steve90068 01-18-09 09:51 PM

strapless wellgo toe clips.....for city riding, if you are climbing or mashing there's a good chance your foot might slip

GestapoTactics 01-18-09 09:54 PM

great potential for this thread.

i look forward to it! :thumb:

no..they're the stock truvativ's.
toe overlap sucks until you get used to it.

Just picked the levers up today. Will probably go on next weekend. One will obviously be a dummy, but I'm not removing the lever. Good thing I saved the little strips that came with my bar tape. :p

rotharpunc 01-18-09 10:48 PM

I cant tell from the pic, what type of lever are those?

Jabba Degrassi 01-18-09 10:50 PM

They're some NOS Modolo levers. From the pics I thought they were black anodized aluminum, but they turned out to be plastic. Oh well. They should still be plenty strong, and I still think they look awesome.

Well, it's in pieces on the way to its fixed gear conversion.

johnnytheboy 01-18-09 11:24 PM

Magatu, the drop on those bars is insane.

Doohickie, you use any of the parts you bought from us yet?!

obsidian6 01-18-09 11:30 PM

Great idea! I think it will be cool to see everyones evolutions of their projects.

Here's mine the day I bought it from a friend, bone stock 2008 Langster, got it early October 2008

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3159/...0f580860_o.jpg

Then I got my first real upgrades. Omniums, new chain, MKS sylvans w/ MKS clips, removed brakes and re-wrapped bars. Everything else still stock. This was early December 2008

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3076/...b0a2e3e0_o.jpg

Now, I've put on some brown Velocity Deep-Vs (which I got for an absurdly good price!), some better rubber (Vittoria Rubino Pro) a Thomson Elite X4 stem (gift from a friend, but I kind of think a black one would look better) and a much more comfortable saddle (SQ-Labs 611). This is as of January 2009

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3097/...a0d4c22a_o.jpg

However there are a couple small things to note that arent on my bike just yet. I am ditching the bars and picked up some RaceFace Deus XC low-rise bars from a friend and I'm trimming them down, I also snagged some Ourys in khaki brown :), and, much to the dismay of some people I am going to be re-mounting a front brake because I was in a car accident on this bike on Christmas Eve and I'm a bit shaken up about riding fast with no brakes now. I guess it only takes 1 hit..

Doohickie 01-18-09 11:31 PM

Not yet. I've played around with them a little- fitting them up and stuff. I've disassembled the Scwhinn as much as I can with the tools I've got. The next step is to take it over to the LBS and have them do the rest of the disassembly. Then I'll paint the frame and put it all together.

Although... as I write this I suppose I could try to piece it together with what I've got and play with it a little before I paint the frame... :D

thanks man. that stock saddle has to go, and it's definitely next on the list, but you typically need money for those kinds of things.

amen....hopefully we can keep this thread rolling for a while. i need to swap out my rear tire, possibly the rear wheel, get some real toe clips.

but like you said it all takes money....and obviously (with my aerospoke and saddle) i spend money on stupid things.
