Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Whats your winter project?

It seems like a lot of people on here have multiple bikes, so what is your winter project?

After I got my motobecane set up as a fixed I was hooked, and now I got a line on an old Peugeot frame that needs new paint, so Ive started to envision a fun project.

Right now Im thinking about stripping the frame down, then applying gun bluing agent to it (any info on this would be appreciated).

Black wheels/hubs/spokes and a silver drivetrain would complete the look.

What do you guys have on your plates?

Here's my winter project. It's a bit different from the kind of builds that I am used to but it's all for fun. Finished bike will eventually have a 50cc motor put into it:

this is what I have so far:
**650c wheels are used for mock up only (AND to make "Zipp-crazed-roadies" mad - lol)

The seat was a $25.00 ebay purchase that was listed under "Antique Motorcycle Seat". It had some very rusty hardware and leather that was so dry that it literally crumbled in my hands.

Seat when purchased:

Seat after cleanup:

The fork was another Ebay purchase. For some reason the previous owner thought it would be a good idea to paint the hardware on this for silver. Scraping off the ugly paint revelaed some decent chrome:

Haha, that's actually kind of awesome. Do you have bars for it yet?

Yea, that thing is sweet, you should throw a pair of clubman bars on there.

Thanks!
I would love to get some real clubman bars for it but I don;t want to spend too much more than I already have on this project. These $7.00 bars is what I settled for:

I think they still give off the "cafe racer" look that I'm going after.

Bikes: '08 Surly Cross-Check, 2011 Redline Conquest Pro, 2012 Spesh FSR Comp EVO, 2015 Trek Domane 6.2 disc

My '88 Trek 400 was my ss/fg project. I pulled it from the dumpster on 12-31-08 and finished it off with a mix of new parts and some stuff I had laying around off another older bike.

My other project is an '87 Schwinn Woodlands (dumpster rescue with the Trek) that I'm turning into a cruiser/utility bike. I still need some finishing touches on it: I'm waiting on a new shifter for the front, and I'm trying to decide on what grips it's getting. I'm going to order a CETMA 7-rail rack for the front, I'm putting a rear rack and my bucket panniers on the back, and by the summer I'll have a Bikes @ Work trailer behind it.

Any tips, advice, coupons, criticisms, etc. would be appreciated. I would very much like to hear what people think as I am the only fixed gear rider that I know.

Old Miyata (needs a respray) with Shimano 600 "Arabesque" components.

Old Sekine & Chapparall (stripped down to bare metal).

Plus a couple other little projects.
