Fixed gear + popular culture.

Fixed gear bikes show up in the weirdest places. Where have you seen one? For instance, I found this bike while playing through the video game Mirror's Edge.

GT triangle bike? How's that game?

Jaw,Knee,Music 02-05-09 09:23 AM

An E-trade commercial. The guy at his computer has one sitting behind him.

LeCollectif 02-05-09 10:04 AM

That game's ridiculously hard. Not bad when you get used to it.

Holy shlt that made me lol.
I haven't seen that particular commercial but I'm sitting here at a Starbucks with my mini laptop logged onto E*Trade checking to see how much money I lost overnight, next to my FG.

It's really fun so far. I love the Target aesthetic and the minimal music. Plus the flow of the game is really awesome. Almost zen-like. :)

they are starting to show up in print media all over especially when it comes to fashion

i've seen a couple track bikes on television shows (esp the ones that are based in NYC)

Most likely one of the designers'/programmers' bikes. One of the few things I learned in my semester as a computer science major is how much fun it is to slip easter eggs like that into your code.

Calvin Klein in-store ad.

cyrano138 02-05-09 04:32 PM

I saw one on an episode of Dexter. It was hanging on a wall someone's apartment.

geeknerd99 02-05-09 08:38 PM

That thing's either gigantic or running 650s. Or both.

LoRoK 02-05-09 09:36 PM

I saw a fixed gear on the internets once.

seconded- it seems that if it's fashion, includes a bike and is aimed to a younger demographic the bike will be a fixed gear.

and colorful.

I saw one in an old Simpsons episode once, no brakes, track drops, track grips. Had to freeze frame the episode to get a look but it was there for a split second.

Haha, I remember seeing this and pointing it out to a friend. It was the one guy who worked for Freebo.

FLslidewayz 02-06-09 06:12 AM
