Yeah, I was thinking this might be the case, but I haven't had a steel fork since my Free Spirit 10speed I had when I was a kid.

You're worried about a harsh ride. Steel is known to have a smoother ride.

I'm not so much worried about a harsh ride, most of the roads I currently ride aren't too badly paved. I was just curious to know if carbon forks dampen vibration better than steel. Thanks!

Any thoughts on the All City Big Block?

Is this a decent wheelset, or should I buy better ones when I purchase the bike?

Good looking but you can most certainly get more bang for your buck elsewhere.

I'm looking to getting a SS for a 10-15 mile commute to and from the gym. The route I'll be taking has all flat roads. As much as I want to ride fixed, my knees wouldn't be able to handle it. I had a Windsor Hour before. Is the Dawes SST Steel a good bike for the money or should I fork up the extra cash and get a Mercier Kilo TT?

Hi. I want to upgrade my aluminium single speed frame to a carbon frame as I live close to the sea and the aluminum frame has started to corrode. I found a Switch Urban carbon frame set. Does anybody own one or has any info on this Frame set? Thank you.

Hi, I want to get my girl started in ss. I have one and would love to ride with her she is a bit chubby (5 11 and 230 pounds), would like a relaxed geometry and a moderate gear ratio. Does anyone have complete bike recommendations?

I need help in deciding which bike to buy:

Schwinn Cutter Single Speed Bike 2012 - https://www.citygrounds.com/schwinn/s...bike-2012-1375

OR

SE Draft Lite Fixed Gear Bike 2012
- https://www.citygrounds.com/se-bikes/...bike-2012-1429

Both are in the same price range
Thanks!

Draft Lite. Threadless, less jack colorway and just a better bike overall.

Thanks Spoon. I'm getting it tomorrow. Seems like the Draft is more popular. My custom fixie got stolen not long ago from my "secured" parking garage that's why I am buying a less expensive one. If I ever catch a thug in the act of stealing any bike anywhere I will seriously hurt the person. Messed up how the same person came back and stole my girlrfriend's bike that was chained with mine to the rack.
Oh well. Thanks for the advice though

Strictly between those two, I'd go with the Draft Lite as well.

In that price area, I'd get this or this.

Still pretty new to gearing and what not, but after riding my friends bike for about 30 miles, I like the gearing of 44/17 compared to 48/16 which is what I'm running. It feels way easier on my knees since I'm still recovering from a torn meniscus. 48/16 is pretty tough on my knees since I ride through a lot of hills in my area. As far as replacing the chain ring/cog, do I need to change out my crank and bottom bracket as well? Thanks for the help.

Carbon deteriorates to salty ocean air as well, getting brittle over time/ delaminating if the situation is in fact as severe that a painted aluminium frame would corrode as you describe... have you tried storing your bike in a better insulated area?

I have $400 to put into a bike...

I'm looking to splash around $400 on a singlespeed/fixed gear bike. What is most important to you? frame? parts? color? I'm not sure where to put the bulk of that $400 in the bike.

- Bottom Bracket -

So I just got myself a good frame with forks and headset and I want to start building the bike together myself. What do you think that should come next? I'm thinking the Bottom Bracket and the Crankset. But I don't know which brand is good. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
