Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Hellyer - Gear ratio combo

For those NorCal and any others...what gear ratios are the folks at Hellyer using? Weather permitting next Saturday will be my first visit.

Ride Safe.

Depends on what group you're riding with - beginners to advance. I've seen people come in with various ratios, but the serious guys typically bring in 52 X 14 or there about. I've brought in 49 X 16.

My friends and I are planning a trip to Hellyer sometime in the next couple of months. None of us have ever done any track riding. Can you just show up and ride?

in the beginning session, you can bring any gear ratio, as long as your bike is fixed without brakes. Or you can rent one of their track bikes; they're typically Pistas.

Rental track bikes last year was $5. Some people bring their own, but most rent them. The convenience is worth the cheap price.
